We are in dire need for safe and loving foster homes. In this economy, so many people are surrendering their pets, and we just cannot handle the volume of requests coming in. If you are willing to receive more love than you could possibly imagine, please consider fostering, it is truly the most rewarding thing you will ever do in your life...and I speak from experience!
Our Mission Statement: We are a 501(c)(3)non-profit canine rescue group focused on the rescue, medical needs, evaluation, rehabilitation and placement of Pomeranians.
Our objectives:
•To provide a safe environment, the needed medical care and evaluation for Pomeranians we have rescued from shelters or are surrendered to us by their owners.
•To match these rescued Poms with a family where we feel they will live and thrive "happily ever after".
•To promote and educate the principles of responsible dog ownership in the home and community with an emphasis on spay and neutering all rescue/shelter animals
•To provide a source of education and support for fanciers of Pomeranians

Lucky
Lucky was found as a stray on the streets, the shelter called us because Lucky really needed to get out he was not doing well and was very frightened. He is in foster care now and really coming around. He is very timid, but very friendly. He does give kisses, and likes to be brushed. He does well with other dogs, cats and even kids. He needs to learn to trust again, his eyes really tell a sotry, a story that is probably not a good one but one of not knowing a lot of kindness, but yet he is so wanting to be a loyal, loving companion. Can you give lucky a forever home, one where he can learn to trust again and give back lots of love?
Lucky is about 15 lbs, 4-5 years old, has a nice silky coat, is up to date on shots and is neutered.
If interested in adopting Lucky, please call Jan Yale at 510-691-2780, or go to pomeranianrescuegroup.org to fill out an application.
An Adoption fee of $400.00 is being requested for Lucky
Buddy
ADOPTION PENDING
Buddy was left at a shelter by his former owners who no longer had room in their heart or home for him; imagine being dumped in a strange place not knowing why or what you did to end up spending the last days of your life in a cold shelter! Poor Buddy, but thankfully we were able to rescue Buddy and give him a second chance to live out the remainder of his life in peace and comfort! Buddy is good with other dogs, he is so sweet but can be a bit timid sometimes but it’s probably because everything is so new to him. He loves to be held and really enjoys sitting on a warm lap while his companion human is working at the computer or watching TV. He is housebroken and sleeps in his crate at night. Buddy is about 6 lbs, 12 years old but still has a LOT to give, and he is up to date on shots and neutered. He would be the perfect companion in a quiet home where there is lots of love and kindness for him to relish in and give back. If you have room in your heart for Buddy, please o fill out an application or contact Jan Yale at 510-691-2760
A $300.00 adoption fee is being requested for Buddy
Tito
Titto is 7+- year old, neutered male, Pom/ChihuahuaX with a long, soft, curly coat. This sweet little guy was surrendered to us because his owner lost her home and could no longer afford him. Titto is an easy, quiet dog, who likes to play, be held and carried around! But, he also loves to go for walks and enjoys all the sights and sounds! He gets along with other dogs or can be an only child. This little boy is playful, loves his toys, pulls at your pants leg to play and chases his tail! If you are looking for a little companion and this delightful little boy has captured your heart please fill out an application. Titto's shots are current, he has a microchip and we had his teeth cleaned and extracted where needed.
An adoption fee of $300.00 is being requested for Tito
Maxine
Maxine was found as a stray most likely dumped on the streets to fend for herself. As luck would have it she was picked up and brought to the shelter before something even more horrific could happen to her. As the shelter grew to crowded, Maxine was on the “list” and her time was limited when we came across her story and were able to get her out, again before a horrific end to her life was about to happen.
Maxine was bit unsure the first day she came to us and her eyes tell the story...
she seemed sad and confused. She was just content to have food and a warm bed.
Now, Maxi is safe but looking for her forever home. She loves to have a tummy rub and give kisses. She has very soft hair. She dances and twirls for food so much so that she cannot contain her excitement so she jumps and pounces on you until her food is in front of her...she jumps pretty high!
Maxi loves to go for a walk...and again does the twirls and jumps when she sees the dog leash in hand :)
The rest of the time she just lays around glad to be in a warm home where she watches everyone and sleeps of course!
She gets excited when she hears noises, when her foster family arrives home or when someone leaves as well as when she thinks she has been out on the patio long enough, LOL. Her eyes are becoming brighter as she seems to be feeling safe and loved. A forever home would need to embrace such attributes and work with her and not against her as she was on the streets and is learning good manners.
Maxine gets along well other dogs: Maxi seems to enjoy wrestling with other playful dogs. She is up to date on shots, spayed, around 5 years old and eager to be your forever dog.
An adoption fee of $300.00 is being requested for Maxine

Cocoa Mulch, which is sold by Target, Home Depot, Foreman's Garden Supply and other garden supply stores contains a lethal ingredient called Theobromine (see below). It is lethal to dogs and cats. It smells like chocolate and it really attracts dogs. They will ingest this stuff and die. Several deaths already occurred recently.
The doting owner of two young lab mixes purchased Cocoa Mulch from Target to use in their garden. The dogs loved the way it smelled and it was advertised to keep cats away from their garden. Their dog (Calypso) decided the mulch smelled good enough to eat and devoured a large helping. She vomited a few times which was typical when she eats something new but wasn't acting lethargic in any way. The next day, Mom woke up and took Calypso out for her morning walk. Half way through the walk, she had a seizure and died instantly.
Although the mulch had NO warnings printed on the label, upon further investigation on the company's web site, this product is HIGHLY toxic to dogs and cats.
Cocoa Mulch is manufactured by Hershey's, and they claim that "It is true that studies have shown that 50% of the dogs that eat Cocoa Mulch can suffer physical harm to a variety of degrees (depending on each individual dog). However, 98% of all dogs won't eat it."
*Snopes site gives the following information:http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp *
Theobromine is in all chocolate, especially dark or baker's chocolate which is toxic to dogs. Cocoa bean shells contain potentially toxic quantities of theobromine, a xanthine compound similar in effects to caffeine and theophylline. A dog that ingested a lethal quantity of garden mulch made from cacao bean shells developed severe convulsions and died 17 hours later. Analysis of the stomach contents and the ingested cacao bean shells revealed the presence of lethal amounts of theobromine.

* Statistics based on California County information provided for 2006.
• 75% of animals found within a shelter were original placed in homes by their owners;
• 40% of animals within shelters are purebred;
• 2 million dogs are stolen from their own yards, in broad daylight each year;
• 6-8 million dogs/cats will visit an animal shelter each year;
• 4.6 million dogs/cats are euthanized each year;
• Only 15% of dogs within shelters are ever reclaimed by their owners;
• Each day 10,000 humans and 70,000 puppies and kittens are born.
For every puppy that you "buy", you are supporting a market where animals are treated as a product - a commodity to be bred and sold for profit. Only 1 out of 10 puppies born, will live to see a full life. Maybe you are that one responsible person who will make a life long commitment to your pet store puppy, but you may not realize that 9 other dogs will have to suffer because of your purchase. You will never see them or know them or hear of their fate - but it is the reality of animal breeding.
Bear
Little Bear came into his Mama's life through sheer luck and Divine Intervention. He changed her life forever, in the best, most wonderful ways. During his short (almost) five years, he brought so much Light and Love into the world, so that his Mama grew and changed in all the right ways. Truly, Little Bear was and forever will be a true Angel from Heaven. All who knew him were blessed by his sense of humor and feistiness. Because of his untimely passing, his Mama became aware of Pomeranian Rescue Group and soon had another precious Pom, Cubby, and they have since fostered upwards of 8 Poms in need. So, although Little Bear's passing left a gaping hole in his Mama's heart, his lasting impact served to prosper more Pommies in their times of need. Thank you, Little Bear. We will always love you.
Colby
We adopted Colby from the Pom Rescue in November 2001 and he had been part of our family for nine years. So many of those years were filled with joy, laughter, and comfort. We remember all those fun times when he chased our son in the backyard, jumping over the retaining walls to cut across the yard; when he slept in our daughter's bedroom and Colby let her put funny hats on him and hug him tight. During the last year of his life, Colby gave much solace to us all while we experienced many life changes. Just having him there in the house, sleeping in the living room and peeking at us through half-closed eyes was enough to know he was a special part of our family. He will certainly be missed but always adored.

Lady & Sprite
Lady and Sprite were rescues from my early days of Pom rescue. I received a call that two Poms were penned up in an abandoned chicken coup in Stockton???, not sure it was there, they were filthy and starving. The woman who rescued them was also new to rescue and we were on the phone discussing the next "move" to save them. They made it to Dr. Han's and when I visited; Sprite came to the front of the cage and protected Lady as she cowered in the back. Lady later gained confidence and Sprite could relax! I fostered them, perfect doggies, and after months found a home that would adopt them both. Lady and Sprite were truly a couple and could not be separated! I followed up with their new home for months and all was going well, so I was told. The human adopters became pregnant and the wife didn't want Dear Lady and Sprite any longer. They ended up dumping Lady and Sprite at Silicon Valley Humane Society and told Jeri to euthanize them! Jeri called me to rescue two Poms, we put two and two together, and I once again rescued this darling couple. There was one more brief adoption that didn't work out and then I received a call from Sara Crain. Sara was aware, loving and willing to take them both. They lived out their lives with Sara and became the regal, loved, pampered Pomerania's they were meant to be with Sara's loving, caring, understanding and devotion, to Lady and Sprite. Lady crossed the Rainbow Bridge first and Sprite recently joined her. Their mommy, Sara, is so sad as are her partner, Juergen, and Baca a "Wy22" Pom they adopted from us. Lady and Sprite really touched my heart and remind me why our rescue work is so important and meaningful, not only to the Pommies but also to their parents and us.
Ivan
Ivan was a dear boy who was so loved by his family. Ivan spent the last few years of his life with a wonderful Mom, Dad and his canine brother Angel. He loved to cuddle in his moms lap and was just a joy while he was with us on this earth. His life was cut short by a sudden illness, but the few years he had with his new family gave them many days and nights of comfort and Joy. He will live forever in the hearts of his family, and all of us at Pomeranian Rescue.
Marty
Marty was the beloved fur baby of Pom Rescue President, Jan Yale. He was loved and cherished for seven years and showered with tons of kisses. The first part of darling Marty's life was traumatic, but the second half was full of happiness and joy. He is sorely missed and will be remembered in the hearts of our rescue forever!
Jazzy
Jazzy was only with Pom Rescue and his devoted adopted family for a very short time. However in that brief moment in time, he brought such joy and happiness to everyone's hearts. He will be forever missed and most beloved.
Sparky
Sparky was rescued from the Fremont shelter and placed in Pomeranian Rescue. She found a wonderful home and lived out the next 10 years with her mom and was loved and pampered. She will be missed and will live in the heart of her mom forever!
Gigi
Gigi was a great girl to have around the house and she will certainly be missed. After spending nearly a month in various foster homes, Gigi, our 10 year old senior citizen's health began to decline. Eventually Gigi quit eating and we decided it would be best for all involved to wish her the best in her journey over the rainbow bridge.
Gigi will certainly be missed.
Little Bear
Little Bear was about 14 years old when he went to the Rainbow Bridge. He spent the last 6 years of his life with a wonderful family in their Pomeranian retirement home. He touched many hearts in our Pom rescue family while he was with us and he will be missed. He is the poster child for how happy your life can be if you bring an older dog into it. They have so much love to give and just need someone like you to give it too.
Maxie
Maxie was a dear friend and companion to her human for many years. She will be forever loved and missed.
Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell was about 6 or so when she came to me. She was a wonderful little girl who felt it was her responsibility to watch over me and love me. She slept on a pillow next to mine every night, loved her talking toys, and loved taking me for walks. When I got very ill, she was there to take care of me and love me and check on me. When Tinkie got sick, I was there for her to do anything I could to help her. She was only with me 3 years, but she was a bright spirit who stills walks around the house and lets me know she is there. I miss her soooo much! Just writing this makes me cry.
Kupcake
I so miss my precious Kupcake, but I am eternally grateful to have been her human for ten years. I will yearn for her little presence the remainder of my days.

Before You Foster-Ask Yourself these Questions!
Are you able to separate the foster animal from your own pets?
Foster animals should be isolated from your own companion animals for various reasons. A separate room or enclosed area with NO carpet will work best during the introductory days.
Are you able to monitor the health of the foster animals?
You will need to pay attention to signs of illness or worsening of symptoms and call the rescue coordinator if you are concerned. Foster home training will cover what to look for, and the rescue coordinator will help you decide if you should bring the animal in for treatment.
Do you feel comfortable explaining to friends that these animals are not yours to adopt out and that they must go through the regular adoption process?
If you are interested in helping to find homes for your foster animal, refer your friends and family to staff to complete an adoption application.
Foster Qualifications
To be a successful foster parent, you will need a compassionate nature, the cooperation of your family or roommates, flexibility, and some knowledge of animal behavior. You also must understand that there is a possibility that the foster animal may or may not be adopted when returned to the animal's rescue coordinator.
The length of time a foster animal may stay in your home varies with the animal's situation. The average stay is two weeks.

Pomeranian Rescue Group Foster Policies
■Dogs in the foster home will receive both physical and emotional care. This includes medical treatment, grooming, and most importantly love. Dogs will live in the home and with the family to the extent that this is possible. Where medical conditions or such things as house-breaking necessitate segregation, every effort will be made to provide the dog with the time, attention, and love that she/he would receive if she/he were part of the family.
■Costs of medical care, including vaccinations, flea treatment, and heartworm preventatives, will be provided by Pomeranian Rescue Group. Except in extreme cases, ordinary supplies, such as toys, food and bedding will be provided by the foster home.
■Dogs will not be released for adoption to anyone who is not authorized and pre-approved by the rescue coordinator for that animal.
■Adult dogs will not be released for adoption without being spayed or neutered except for urgent medical necessity, and then only with veterinary approval.
■Puppies will be held in foster care until a veterinarian verifies that spay/neuter is medically safe; almost always this will be done by 6 months of age.
■All adoptions require a contract signed in advance by the President of Pomeranian Rescue Group, as well as by the person adopting the dog.
■No aggressive dogs will be rescued, and any found to be seriously aggressive after rescue will be euthanized based upon personal judgment and veterinary recommendations. A dog that has bitten someone and drawn blood is considered to be aggressive regardless of the animal’s size.
If you feel you qualify and would like to try our Foster program, please go to our "Contact Us" page and email your request for a Foster Application to Jan. After you receive the application you will need to fill it out and return it and we will contact you for further information. Pomeranian Rescue Group (PRG) is very grateful that there are many people who want to help NON PROFIT organizations such as ours, but do not have the time or ability to foster, transport or adopt one of our Poms. Please know that we desperately need, and humbly accept, your tax deductible donation of any amount. If you would like to make a donation, please feel free to click on the "Make Donation" button below. It will take you to our secure website where you may make a donation with Visa, Master Card or Papal.
How is your donation used?
When PRG rescues a Pomeranian, we incur veterinary costs which may include all or some of the following: spay/neuter; dental care; shots; microchips; orthopedic surgery; medications; ultra sound; x-rays; blood tests; fecal tests; treatment and medications to name a few. However, there are several dogs we have taken in with significant medical needs. In some cases, we may take in more money on one dog, which will help offset the higher medical expenses on another dog. As an example, Holly's medical expenses are exceeding $3,200 and her adoption fee is $250.00. Regardless of our expenses on any one pom, our adoption fee is never greater than $400!
The reality is that, in many cases, without your donation we would not be able to provide the medical necessities to many of our Poms.
