Greek life is a popular option for many Culver-Stockton students, with approximately 40% choosing to become members of the Greek community. Culver-Stockton hosts five national fraternities and three national sororities: Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. Fraternity and sorority members meet weekly to participate in the management and activities of their chapters and have the opportunity to live in their own housing units. The basic goals of these organizations are to promote fellowship and positive relationships, provide leadership development, and facilitate social interaction.

GREEK LIFE at C-SC
The following pages will provide you with a general overview of what "being Greek" is all about...
Membership in a Greek organization is one of the best ways to become involved at C-SC. Many of the Student Government leaders and officers of numerous other organizations are involved with the Greek community. Those members already involved in campus activities can assist fellow Greeks in taking an active leadership role on the Culver-Stockton College campus. Not only can members participate in campus-wide activities, but also in many other leadership opportunities within each chapter and the respective Greek councils. Research has shown that involved college students are more likely to graduate and report greater satisfaction with their overall college experience.
All Greek organizations are working examples of a democracy in action. This is often the first time that members are responsible for their own activities and living within their means. This provides an excellent opportunity to experience leadership and the responsibility of membership.

Members have exemplified great Greek and campus leadership as well as academic excellence.
Academics are important in Greek Life, and are stressed by chapters from recruitment to graduation. The resources that Greeks can provide include scholarship awards, study sessions, note-taking skills, and tutoring assistance. Many chapters and national Greek organizations recognize and reward their members' scholastic excellence. Additionally, according to retention data, members of Greek organizations are more likely to complete their Culver-Stockton College degree than their non-Greek counterparts.
Community service and philanthropic projects provide chapter members with the opportunity to support many causes. Chapters support both the local and national charitable organizations from local Highway Clean-Up to the American Heart Association.
Greek students work together on projects not only to serve the community but also to foster personal growth and greater unity among the Greek community. The Culver-Stockton College Fraternity and Sorority community donate thousands of dollars each year to St. Jude Children's Hospital and other charitable organizations as a community. On top of that, the total number of hours donated and the total amount of money raised by individual chapters continues to grow every year.
The single most mentioned aspect of Greek Life is the friendship that exists between members of a chapter; both undergraduate students and alumni members. Greek Life promotes the development of close ties between members through living, studying, working, competing and having fun together. These lifetime relationships go beyond ordinary friendships to become like that of a family.
While academic achievement is the primary reason to attend C-SC, there is a time for social interaction. Culver's Greek community always provides fun activities for its members. Social and recreational activities give you the opportunity to meet a variety of people and to strengthen the bonds of friendship at the same time. Fraternity and sorority functions, date parties and formal dances are examples of these activities. Participation in traditional events, such as Homecoming, Greek Week and philanthropic events, demonstrates Greek unity and spirit.
C-SC is proud to have a strong sports program, offering sports from flag football to Texas Hold Em Tournaments. The overwhelming participation of the Greek students contributes to its success. In this arena, sororities, and fraternities compete with one another in a friendly and non-threatening environment, uniting under one bond of fraternalism.
Greek alumnae play a major role in advising chapters. Each chapter has at least one advisor and a house corporation which helps with the day-to-day operations of the chapter. They meet regularly as members of the Greek Community, which provides networking and resources for efficient chapter management.
Since the inception of Greek-Letter societies, they have been self-sufficient. Each chapter and subsequent national office collects dues and membership fees from every member. Most groups have a one-time pledge and initiation fee, plus semester dues. Fees vary from chapter to chapter. Average chapter semester dues are $250, but while going through recruitment each student should ask about specific chapter fees.

The C-SC Panhellenic Council is the governing council of Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. The council was formed and established during the 2008-2009 school year by the Greek community and a special team comprised of members from each chapter called the Greek Life Task Force.
During the founding year, the council has contributed to the Girl Scouts of America through their April Showers campaign, set up development programs including etiquette dinners and self-defense workshops, altered the usual recruitment strategy to one that better fits our campus, and instated rules of standards and established a Greek Review Board to determine sanctions for violations of those rules. The council has also offered a leadership conference (IMPACT) and recruitment workship (Phired Up!) to be utilized by the member chapters.
We hope to see the council grow as a resource used by the Greek community in the years to come.
