Your World Next Door starts by inspiring middle school students to travel the world by giving them a taste of it here at home.
Students participate in our "Saturday Abroad" program to understand what immersion in another culture is like and to learn cross-cultural skills to successfully navigate a summer or academic year abroad.
Students then join our online community to participate in activities that will support and prepare them to apply for a study abroad program in high school.

Saturday Abroad in Ethiopia
Recap Video (10 Minutes)
We need to educate students to be able to interact competently with people from all over the world today. This requires the ability to speak more than one language and to interact with cultural awareness and sensitivity. Students can achieve these goals while studying abroad in high school.
Washington, DC is a global capital and many students growing up here are not tapping into the opportunities that are essentially right next-door. Students of color are disproportionately not engaging in studying abroad opportunities in high school or college which will result in missed professional opportunities for our students. When students of color do not study abroad there is a missed opportunity for other nations to fully understand the rich and diverse society that makes up the United States. We need to bolster the numbers of DC students studying abroad.
This program is a volunteer effort that relies on the insight, connections and creativity of its members. If you know of a great way to immerse students in another culture here in DC or if you know of funding sources that will enable our students to study abroad please contact us.
In today's world opportunities can come from the other side of the world but only globally aware students will be able to see them coming.
Our goal is to develop student leaders who can take advantage of opportunities coming their way from all over the world.
