In the current mind of many hip hop fans, the idea of positive rap is synonymous with overly preachy lyrics and boring beats. Such is not the case with K-Rahn, a lyrically driven west coast rap artist who is very passionate about making music that uplifts today's urban community. On his soon to be released album, Give It How I Live It, one can hear the rare blend of socially and spiritually conscious themes with the hard hitting sound of the streets.
Since a child music has been a major part of K-Rahn's life. Ice Cube and NWA had a tremendous impact on his love for hip hop, but it was 2Pac who most influenced K-Rahn artistically. He says he was drawn to the 3-dimensional personality of 2Pac's songs. "Unlike no other, 'Pac was able to show the conflicts that exist in all of us."
Having experience working with Los Angeles' detained youth, K-Rahn has a passion for messages alternative to those often dominating much of today's hip hop. Through this passion, he has risen as the voice of the CORNERBACK MOVEMENT, a collective of artists, fans, and concerned citizens pushing for higher thinking and social responsibility. "This album is about the battle within. Our strengths and weaknesses, our integrity and hypocrisies. It is album of self examination." Tracks like Why, which have a smooth, outdoor barbeque feel-good vibe, deal with the idea that the hatred we inflict on others is really rooted in our own self hatred, while tracks such as This Is Your are just fun, club driven West Coast anthems.
K-Rahn realizes that many hip hop fans do not want to turn away from rap, but often feel forced to do so due to its current seemingly lack of diversity. He is leading the way in helping return variety of thought to the commercial rap music industry. Music business consultant Wendy Day, one instrumental in the development of several well known rap stars and labels, including Twista, Cash Money Records, David Banner, and Eminem, states "[K-Rahn's] music is very good. I was very impressed! It was produced well, and the songs well constructed. I feel it's a top notch project worthy of taking to market."
