How it all started and Who is Lukas
Lukas came to stay with me in Valemount, British Columbia, Canada as an exchange student in 2007. He went to high school here, grade 11, started to play the trumpet, learned how to survive in the wilderness (a course he took in school), went backcountry skiing, skating on the Starrat Marsh, went camping and woke up to the tent being frozen on the outside, saw salmon spawning, and started to learn how to cook. And: he was a pleasure to have around, to make breakfast, lunch and dinner for, to take camping in Wells Gray Provincial Park, to introduce to smalltown livingin Canada, to help dress up for Halloween, to go as a 'parent'to the student-parent-teacher conference (and only hear great things about my borrowed 'son', to teach him how to do laundry, to be taught some new computer skills, and, to teach him the first steps of cooking (without getting too antsy and taking over in the middle of it). This is how I got the idea to write this cookbook and this is what it is about. It is a cookbook for (not only) beginners, especially for young people who are just leaving home.
The recipes in this book are easy, don't take long after a bit of practise (most of them anyway), are inexpensive and delicious, nutritious and mostly from scratch.
The cookbook includes some essential explanations as'How to cookRice in a Pot', 'What is a medium Onion' and 'The Things I need to have in my Kitchen' as well as how to substitute ingredients and to change a recipe.
The only thing you have to do now is:Start cooking and enjoy!

About the Author
Jeannette Lorenz comes originally from West-Berlin, Germany (where she still has a suitcase as the song goes by Hildegard Knef).
And yes, Jeannette was there, when The Wall came down. Actually, she was also there when The Wall was built.
Jeannette moved to Canada in 1996.
What she really likes about Canada is WINTER!, speaking and reading English, CBC radio, and being part of a multi-cultural society, and.... did I mention WINTER?
Does she miss Germany?
"Yes!"
What does she miss?
"I miss my friends and family, and the sense of European history, the old buildings, the culture. It's part of me.
If there was some machine to beam me over once in a while, I'd be the happiest person in the world."
