Mackenzie began writing poetry in elementary school when an inspiring teacher forced her into journaling. A few years later, she received a WCATY grant to work with the Poet Laureate of Wisconsin and discovered a true passion for poetry.
Currently a student at Wake Forest University, Mackenzie has continued to cultivate her poetry through classes and experiences which never cease to stir words on a page.
Mackenzie's poetry has recently appeared in Time You Let Me In: 25 Poets Under 25, an anthology compiled by Naomi Shihab Nye.
