New Heirlooms is a Northern California folk collective, performing live as anywhere from a three- to a seven-piece band. Frontman Jesse Lee Millers classical training can be heard in New Heirlooms odd chord structure and haunting arrangements, complimented by a vocal style and lyrics that parallel the groups warm California roots. Marissa Moriel adds her sweet and soulful voice on top, and at times the whole band comes together to sing in tight, complex harmonies. New Heirlooms sound aligns with contemporary artists like Murder by Death, The Decemberists, Dark Dark Dark, and Other Lives, and the band cites Nick Cave and Ennio Morricone among its influences. There debut record, out now, was produced and recorded by Cooper McBean of the Devil Makes Three.
