About us
Wathen Grange School ,( Dfes : 937 / 6104 ) , is a small, split site,independent school for up to 20 students 11- 16yrs , with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. Our students have had challenging lives and we believe that we provide them with an education that is high in expectations and support. Our overall aim is to develop a deep and full understanding of our students’ lives and difficulties, so that we can respond to them on an individual basis and give them informed and well thought out guidance.
Our belief
We believe that we provide students with an education that is focussed on positive outcomes in line with Every Child Matters. In addition, our main strategy is to ensure that our practice within the school is strongly rooted in sound theoretical perspectives. Alongside this, we strive to develop evaluative practice so that we continuously review all our interventions, theories and approaches. Key theories on which we base our thinking and practice are Attachment theory and Emotional Literacy. Both of these approaches have deepened our understanding of students with complex needs. We feel that such understanding and the associated interventions meet the needs of our students and improve their life chances.
Our vision
The needs and aspirations of each individual young person are very important to us. We believe all young people placed in our care should be given the best possible help to reach their maximum potential. Our aim is therefore to provide the very best learning experiences for all our students so that they enjoy the education we provide for them, learn to achieve and are well prepared for economic independence and adulthood. Our work with these young people is based on a belief in the unique worth of each individual and in developing mutual trust and co-operation.
