Columbus Cougars Philosophy
We are a community of children, parents and coaches who want to learn and improve their football knowledge, skill and ability. Our goals are to develop and promote the principles of responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork and fellowship within a safe and positive environment. To ensure that the individual growth of our children is enhanced through the spirit of competition, discipline and fair play, we provide a structured program designed to educate all participants in all aspects of the sport of football and cheerleading. The Columbus Cougar Youth Association is committed to providing a program that maintains the highest standards and promotes a fun and positive experience for everyone involved.
Parents -- we need YOU!
Parents your participation in our program is as important to us as your childs. Registration fees and concession stand sales alone do not cover all the cost of running these programs. Once the season begins there are many roles to be filled. We always welcome volunteers to help out in the concession stands, take donations at the gate, sell 50/50 raffle tickets, fundraisers, chain crews, team moms or dads, etc. . .
People can be divided into three groups
1. Those who make things happen
2. Those who watch things happen
3. Those who wonder what happened

The 2009 Season for the 180lb team was an exciting roller coaster with a 7-2 season. The season included several victories, and a couple very down to the wire defeats. Fortunately, through their commitment to excellence and hard work, the 180lb Cougars rallied back through the play-offs. Round one was a revengeful game against the Vikings, for whom one of their season defeats were served. Perhaps, the sweetest revenge battle was for the UYA City Championship, where they grovelled and prevailed against the undefeated Raiders. This squad also made a national appearance at the Turkey Bowl Classic in Atlanta, Georgia winning a runner-up slot in the tournament against teams from across the country.

The 2009 season was a season of continual improvement for this squad. Suffering its only defeat the first game of the season these young athletes learned quicly the importance of adjustment and striving for improvement as a team. A key turning point was a trip to Dayton, Ohio to battle a junior high school squad, where this team learned that heart surpasses size in a true champion. Claiming the UYA city championship against the undefeated Saints and serving up a "get-back" defeat to its only loss during the season, made for a memorable season for this 10-1 squad. The team also earned a 2nd place national championship title at the Turkey Bowl Classic held in Atlanta, Georgia.

Head Coach: Edward Carter
Assistant Coaches: Vicc Parker, Dane Clark
As with many young developing athletes, the unity required of new football players develops over time as is the case with the 85lb Cougars. With a 5-4 season overall, most wins were experienced towards the end of the season. Barely missing the play-offs was tough for the team, as their reputation was becoming more and more known as the team no one wanted to face in the play-offs. This squad experienced National success at the Turkey Bowl Classic in Atlanta, securing a runner-up title among several teams across the USA.
