INTRO-
Taiwan is about 250 kilometers long. The Tropic of Cancer, which marks the boundary between the tropics and the subtropics runs across Hualian and Taitung counties. The winter temperature ranges from 16 to 20 degrees Celsius. The average summer temperature is 17 to 30 degrees Celsius. Taiwan. In winter, the cold current from the north of China brings the northeasterly monsoon winds.
GEOGRAPHY-
The landforms along the East Coast include coastal terraces, sandy beaches, gravel beaches, reefs, offshore islands, capes, and marine-erosion landforms such as marine benches, caves, and ditches. As the plates continue to move together, the land rises. The result is a natural geology classroom.
VEGETATION-
Coral reef plants grow on lime soil that originates from coral and in areas of high salt and high pH concentrations. Typical examples of such vegetation can be found in the three main scenic areas, Shi Ti Ping, San Xian Tai, and Xiaoyeliou.
DOLPHIN & WHALE WATCHING -
Large whales include the humpback whale, killer whale, sperm whale, short-finned pilot whale, and beaked whale. In the seas near Taitung, the Rissos dolphin is the most common dolphin species, followed by the spinner dolphin, pantropical spotted dolphin, bottlenose dolphin and pygmy killer whale. The humpback whale, killer whale, sperm whale, short-finned pilot whale, and the mysterious beaked whale have also been seen. In all, there are 17 species of whales and dolphins found here.
RAFTING-
The Siouguluan River is the biggest river in the east of Taiwan and the only one that flows across the coast mountains. The lower reaches of the Siouguluan River, from Rueisuei to Dagangkou, forms the Siouguluan River gorge.The gorge is majestic, with a multitude of curiously shaped stones. It has become Taiwan's center for rafting in inflatables.
HOT SPRING-
The Antong Hot Springs, which are almost completely clear, are of a faint alkaline, chloride, and sodium sulfide quality. They have a faint hydrogen sulfide smell.These springs are good for treating various conditions, such as skin ailments, stomach and intestine ailments, gynecologic diseases, and wounds.
The Kuroshio Current brings a rich variety of products such as sailfish, tuna, mahi mahi, flying fish,etc. A fisherman can easily catch a large amount of fish in one night. This is the gift that the Kuroshio Current has given to the Amis.
The Amis are the largest aboriginal tribe in Taiwan, their traditional society is matriarchal, with a high status given to female relatives and males in a subordinate position. After the harvest of paddy rice in July and August, the Amis communities choose a time to hold the Harvest Festival, which lasts from three to seven days. It remains one of the most important Amis ceremonies, and is well worth experiencing if you are in the area at the time.
The Cave of Eight Immortals is the first Paleolithic Age site excavated in Taiwan. It is also the oldest human-inhabited place in Taiwan. In the Cave of Eight Immortals were found many tools and fishing implements from 30000 years ago.
