With inspiration from Disney movies and classical films, to the simple beauties found in nature, Classy Lady's Endear Visible Attraction, or C.L.E.V.A.Â’s designer, Latasha Anderson (known as Miss Cleva) puts creativity and artistry on display along with the wild styles and adventurous appeals. With the family around her being primarily gifted in the arts, it would be no secret that the apple wouldnÂ’t fall too far from the tree. Watching her grandmother sewing and crocheting opened her creative mind and now we have the graceful grinder.
The grind, not without bumps in the road, and of course, not without growth; from the early days, growing up in the Bronx, this “80’s” baby, born in 1986, seen herself drawing sketches while in Junior High School, M.S. 142. Then thoughts to learn more about Fashion had arisen, and the choosing of high school had begun. Many options, but the end result was Art and Design High School, in Manhattan, NY. At Art and Design High School, Miss Cleva learned fashion illustration, learned how to sew using sewing machines, and became a better sketcher. Following her tenure at Art and Design, was the birth of McClendon Wear.
McClendon Wear, derived from her grandmotherÂ’s last name through marriage, was Miss ClevaÂ’s first clothing line. The welcoming of the line came with positive intentions, as the line was featured in shows for charities. In 2004, the line had seen its launching show in Spanish Harlem, N.Y. However, an unfortunate turn of events resulted in the end of McClendon Wear after a year. In, essence, the young designer was in over her head. The business was still business and bridges were burnt.
In the middle of 2005, Miss Cleva, then at 19 years of age, began to question if it was what was meant for her. There wasn’t any sewing or sketching. The disappointing downfall of McClendon Wear left her dismal. Years began to pass her by and desire became her best friend. “If you can’t make things happen, then things wont happen,” said that desire. Miss Cleva couldn’t stop sewing and sketching, but now it was time to continue on this path, which was once in question. Along comes something C.L.E.V.A.
C.L.E.V.A., the concept, came from Erykah Badu’s, ‘Cleva’. C.L.E.V.A. is the perfect mixture of urban appeal, class, and nature. C.L.E.V.A.’s arrival in 2008 marked the end of the sewing drought. While employed at “Dishes”, a New York City restaurant, studying was the consistency. Through thorough research and patience, was the long sought after growth. Miss Cleva, then intent on the prosperity of C.L.E.V.A., quit her job, partly because taking orders was unbearable. “Let life flow. Everything is good and getting better,” said Miss Cleva. Driven by her family, with support coming from all angles within, C.L.E.V.A. will grow, the online boutique will be here shortly, and in the near future, the boutique will open for us all to enjoy.
