ABOUT
Darrell is the son of renowned painter Darrell K. Sweet. It is from here that his son's roots in the visual arts began. As a child, constantly immersed in the art by both mother and father, Darrell began to create figures which he created from clay he dug from the stream next to his childhood home. From an early age his parents exposed him to the Great Masters of Europe as well as the American Masters all to often overlooked. During his teens, rather obscure images found their way under Darrell's hand with realism and abstraction seemingly interchanged like night and day. Darrell entered the University of Wyoming in 1992 where his professors recognize his talents and urged him to pursue sculpting. They spent hours of time discussing the philosophy of art which lead to the abstraction of Darrell's sculpting to blossom. Several of his sculptures ended up in the possession of his professors. After Graduating with a BA and departing from solely abstract work, Darrell spent the next 8 years sculpting Art relating to the Old West. Wildlife became an important subject as well. He also spent those years working at Caleco Foundry, Inc. In Cody, Wyoming (where he resides with his wife Ricki & daughter Lily). Here, he learned the process of bronze casting. "“It's been a great ride so far, I'm looking forward to advancing my Western and Wildlife work with an unmatched intensity.”"
