May 28th, 2010:
Today Courtney and I went out to a yet-to-open cafe on the south side of Chicago to see about doing chalk writing on the menu board. It is a job that I look forward to doing, and I'm currently working on getting things prepared for it. We got to talk to the owners of the cafe and see their awesome living space, so it was a productive meeting. Don't forget to check out the MailBox Kids blog for the giveaway!

Oh and I added Google Analytics on here so I can see the traffic recieved on the site which will help in marketing. I am looking to do skatedecks more often, aslo looking for bands that need artwork. Fliers are $20bucks a design!!! And yesterday was my friends birthday...Hasson Harris. Hope he had a great bday! Back to work.

So tons of new things are going on on the site here. I created a photobucket page just for all the art and stuff. I am debating weither or not if I want to use this front page as my blog, or keep the blog on tumblr. Probably going to keep it on tumblr. <http:christopherbellillustration.tumblr.com>
More art will be uploaded...over 300 paintings/sketches/etc. Still debating how I want to present my art on the pages. Maybe clickable thumbnails.
Google Analytics will be placed on here Friday once the url is up and running.
Oh and checkout MAILBOX KIDS on ETSY for Courtney and my card designs for purchase.
By the way, anyone know of any cafes in the city hiring???
Anyways thanks for all the support you guys all give me...this has been a long time in the works; stoked to see it finally here and going strong.
All artwork has been created by and is property of Christopher Bell.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1985 in a small farmtown in northwestern Tennessee, Chris began making art at an early age winning awards in kingergarden. He was a socially awkward kid and art was his way of connecting with society, expressing his thoughts with drawings. In highschool, Chris would draw design for bands and fellow student's tattoo ideas. After entering college at the University of Memphis for Biomedical Engineering, he met a professor who changed his life. This art professor named Cedar Nordbye mentored Chris and shaped him as an artist to some extent. During this time in Memphis, Chris began writing graffiti and doing stencils influenced by the UH! crew. He began networking in the Memphis music scene making band fliers, t-shirts, stickers. In 2008, Chris met a guy named Andy Rice and started painting in a co-op gallery. After amazing sales, Chris decided to take his art career to Chicago. In August of 2009, he packed a small suitcase of clothes, a box art supplies, and a few hundred dollars and boreded Mega bus to advance his art career in the city. Curently living in the Pilsen art district with girlfriend Courtney Kazmierczak.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
My process of painting is inspired by the background I have as a graffiti writer, skateboarder and BMXer, and the Memphis punk rock scene. With this inspiration, I use stencils and other forms of media to convey my art. The paintings I create are produced to capture the viewers attention and pull THE SOUL deep into the painting. Along with evoking the soul, I also want my work to stimulate their brain and make them wonder what exactly it is they are looking atwhats being portrayed in the image. Escapism is a main theme in my work. I explore how society escapes from whatever is plaguing their lives, and even how I escape by creating the art itself - as cutting stencils and brushing paint across canvas has become a form of meditation for me
My Materials :
I am well-rounded as an artist. Over the years of trying to find my style, I have experimented with many different materials. Through it all, I have stuck mostly with acrylic on canvas. Stencils and spraypaint have been used widely in my art as well. I do photography yet I have never been taught. I use a Nikon FG-20 35mm film camera. Mostly just do that to study composition and color theories. I have done silkscreen prints, digital design work, sculpture, writing, and have recently been working on short film ideas.
