ABOUT
Chris Golinski is a composer, drummer, and percussionist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. His musical interests range from experimental rock and free improvisation to contemporary classical, and his music seeks to bridge the gap between the different stylistic influences he has absorbed as well as notated and improvised material. Chris is currently completing his MFA at Mills College, where he has studied composition and improvisation with Roscoe Mitchell and Fred Frith, as well as percussion with William Winant. As a performer, he has worked in a wide variety of settings, including premiering works for composers Christian Wolff, Julia Wolfe, and Peter Garland, performing with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and the Eclipse String Quartet, and playing in improvising ensembles with Mat Maneri and Ed Schuller. His current projects include the duo Brains with multi-reedist Drew Ceccato and a long-standing collaboration with pianist and composer Lona Kozik. Chris is also active in composing music for dance, and his music has been featured in dance performances at ODC Dance, the Black Choreographers Festival at Dance Mission, and the Garage in San Francisco.
