Our Conductor
John Hunter is the official Choral Conductor of The New York Community Men’s Choir. May 2009, he completed his Master of Arts degree in Choral Conducting from Mansfield University, where he studied with Peggy Dettwiler, DMA (Eastman). While at Mansfield University, Mr. Hunter taught and conducted five different choral ensembles, competed in the 2008 World Choir games in Graz, Austria with the Mansfield Concert Choir (who received the Gold award for categories Gospel/Spiritual and Vocal Jazz); and performed in a number of televised events. John graduated from Averett University in 2006 with a baccalaureate degree in Church Music. The most influential person in Hunter’s decision to pursue Choral Conducting would have to be his Choral instructor Dr. Gail Allen. Dr. Timothy Montgomery (voice) and Dr. Anne Lewis (piano) were also very important influences in his development. John grew up in a two family house located in the Bedford Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, NY. He spent the majority of his childhood playing basketball on the streets of Brooklyn. He now enjoys spending time with his father (John), mother (Claudia), and brother (Micah).

Mission Statement
The Mission of the New York Community Men's Choir is to bring the message of the Gospel through the ministry of music. A group formed of strong and committed men of valore, taking their rightful position to enlighten and raise awareness of the health and well-being resouces available for a specified health issue. Also the greater pupose is to help enhance the quality of life for those suffering from Sickle Cell Anemia and to connect them with effective efforts and key information for personal well-being and improvements through group meetings and discussions.

This organization is currently in search of talented Male Voices. This season, we will be singing Music from a variety of different genres including Gospel, Spirituals, Jazz, 20th Century Music, Classical, Baroque and More.
