Theresa has over 25 years of experience in child development including not only traditional training and classroom education but hands-on and practical experience caring for children. Theresa is an Authorized Parents Toolshop (R) Leader and a Certified Parent Coach-candidate. Theresa holds a degree in Small Business Management from Lansing Community College and has studied Marketing at Davenport University and Early Childhood Development at Northwestern Michigan College. Becoming a parent for the first time can be a daunting prospect and learning how to be a parent from a book doesn't always cut it. This class will help give the rookie parent the confidence and knowledge to care for your infant from the moment you bring him home from the hospital through his first birthday and beyond. This class will cover the growth and development of your newborn, normal sleeping schedules, hands-on baby care, car seat safety, the "how to's" of diapering, immunizations, safety issues, how to choose from the many day care options and just when to call your doctor.
You can expect sessions such as:
1.Infant CPR
2.Infant massage
3.Bathing, diapering, and general baby care
4.Infant safe sleep. Why is it so important?
5.Car seat safety. How to be sure your seat is safe.
6.What does your infants' crying mean and how can you help?
7.Keeping baby healthy. Doctor visits, immunizations, recognizing warning signs
8. Adjusting to your new family

This Car Seat Safety Class is specifically designed for new and expectant parents.
Learning how to use the new car seat is often the last step in preparing for the arrival of a new baby. In the chaos and excitement before the baby is born, this isn't always done well or at all. Car seats often come with lengthy instructions that parents may not read or fully understand, causing many car seats to be used incorrectly.
This car seat safety class provides expectant and new parents with an opportunity to focus on the proper use of car seats to keep their children safe.
The class is facilitated by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.
The class is about an hour in length and provides information on:
■Properly securing the baby in the car seat
■Installing the car seat into the vehicle
■Common car seat errors and solutions

We all know that we need to keep a watchful eye on our baby at all times. That being said, no matter how careful you are you are bound to turn around for a second, and that is enough for your baby to get into trouble. Therefore, it is vitally important that their surroundings are safe. This class will teach you the basics of household safety, where your baby is concerned, and how to avoid common hazards. We will also show you how to child proof your own home as well as any professional.
