ABOUT THE CHABAD LOFT: CREATING A HOME IN THE HEART OF NYC
Our Patriarch Abraham and Matriarch Sarah provided an oasis of hospitality in the desert. Their tent, opened on all four sides, welcomed weary travelers coming from all directions. Similarly, the Chabad Loft provides an oasis of hospitality and is always open on “all four sides.” Rabbi Yakov runs to greet weary travelers (or local residents) with a giant smile and an open heart. Rebbetzin Yosefa, armed with her famous “purple haze” salad, and some of the best and most elegant foods is eager to prepare a shabbos meal to feed over 100 souls. There is never an empty seat at the Shabbos table yet no one is ever turned away from a delicious shabbat dinner that is filled with warmth, love and spirituality.
The Chabad Loft’s doors are open every day of the week at all times to offer a sanctuary for prayer for all. Regularly scheduled Minyan services are held during the afternoon and Shabbat services filled with warmth and spirituality are held every Friday night and Saturdaymorning. In addition, no one needs to purchase a ticket or a seat to attend a holiday service or meal since the “tent” is always available for everyone. The Chabad Loft brings light into darkness and “illuminates” souls on a daily basis. The loft has a full schedule of programsand classes as well as a full library and study center that is always available to anyone wishing to stop by and study alone or with the Rabbi.

Rabbi Shais Taub is a teacher and author known for his scholarship in Chassidic mysticism as well as his work with recovering addicts.
He is on the editorial staff of Chabad.org and Jewish.TV and is also a frequent contributor for the Huffington Post.
NPR called him "an expert in Jewish mysticism and the 12 Steps" and Publishers Weekly praised his bestseller God of Our Understanding: Jewish Spirituality and Recovery from Addiction a "singular resource for those in need."
In 2010, Taub authored God of Our Understanding: Jewish Spirituality and Recovery from Addiction in which he discusses how ancient Jewish principles relate to the Twelve-Step treatment programs. One review called the book "a thoughtful counter to one criticism occasionally heard--that the 12 steps are implicitly Christian--and a singular and valuable resource for those in need." Taub presents the view that drugs are the addict's solution rather than his problem, and that those people who turn to chemicals or other compulsive behaviors are attempting to fill a spiritual void.
His work has been compared to that of Rabbi Abraham Twerski another Hasidic rabbi who has written extensively on addiction and who is coincidentally also a Milwaukee transplant to Pittsburgh. Twerski, who Taub considers "a personal hero" endorsed God of Our Understanding stating that the book "should be read by all clergy, therapists, people in recovery, people who should be in recovery, and their family members."
