Wind power is on the rise in the US. Last year the US wind power capacity surged by 46%, with 5329 MW added and $9 billion invested. There is a great capacity for wind power in the United States and this industry is growing. Wind installations in 2007 in the US were the largest on record in any given year. No other country, in one year has completed the amount of wind installations that the US did in the past year. This market has huge potential for growth in the US market.
Current market
Considering the success of the wind power in the US , we decided to focus on Indiana and see how beneficial turbine power would be. Wind power is in between the introduction and the growth stage on the Produc Life Cycle. Turbine power is becoming more popular but consumers in Indiana are having a more difficult time converting. The target market for Indiana is landowners or farmers, anyone with open land that can implement a windmill. We also are targeting only specific areas in Indiana.
The highest wind resources in Indiana are found across the northern half of the state. The most wind saturated areas are located across the north-central region of Indiana with the largest contiguous area being northwest of Lafayette and northwest of Indianapolis. Other areas are located east of Muncie.
