Baby Naming Ceremonies
Celebrate the arrival of your little one with a Name-giving ceremony.
Why have a Naming Ceremony?
Naming ceremonies have been a part of family and community life for centuries. Almost every culture has a ceremony or ritual designed to mark or celebrate the occasion of birth, either in the actual sense, or in the sense of attaining a certain status in life, such as adolescence or adulthood.
A naming ceremony is a very special way of celebrating the birth of your child and welcoming the new arrival into the family and the wider community.
It's also an opportunity to declare, before family and friends, your promise to be as good a parent s you can, and for adult friends or relatives to confirm their special relationship with your child. It is a unique occasion for everyone to feel involved as they pledge their support for your child's development.
The naming ceremony is a fulfilling and meaningful experience for all participants. It
What format does a naming ceremony take?
There is no legal requirement for a naming ceremony. You may wish to include stories, poetry or readings, songs or dances. Symbols and rituals, family customs and traditional ways may be incorporated and, as quite often happens, there may be the Prearation and sharing of food afterwards. You decide each and every element of your ceremony. How exciting is that?
Always remember this is your ceremony, I am here to guide you along the way.

Other Ceremonies
To mark a significant life event, you may wish to consider the following -
Renewal of Wedding Vows
Many married couples reaffirm their love, devotion and commitment to each other and celebrate the occasion with a ceremony.
The celebration often highlights a significant wedding anniversary (10, 20, 25 years). The ceremony can be reflective or lighthearted and simple, finishing with tea and cake, a backyard barbeque, or elaborate and including a feast.
Same Gender / Life Partner Commitment Ceremony
When two people are in love and decide to commit to a life-long union, their declaration to each other and to the world can be beautifully expressed through a Life-Partner Commitment Ceremony. I will work with you to create a beautiful, relevant and meaningful ceremony.
You can validate your ceremony with the Victorian Relationship Register which was initiated by the Victorian Government and Office of Births Deaths and Marriages in 2009. You can download the Registration Form or for more information visit http://online.justice.vic.gov.au.
Life Milestones and Birthdays
Reaching adulthood, mid-life and retirement opens new chapters in our lives. You may wish to celebrate a life milestone such as a gaining a Diploma, Degree or a Graduation, or arrange a Surprise ceremony for a loved one or friend who is reaching a right of passage.
Thanksgiving Ceremony
This is a ritual that says thank-you and usually follows a significant event. It follows a Wedding, or as part of another celebration. It is a formalised thank-you to loved ones or Mother Nature.
Something Different
A naming ceremony for a restaurant or boat?
A Change of Name
Every now and then an older child or an adult makes a choice to change his or her name and would like to celebrate the change with family and friends.
End of Life Farewells
When someone we love dies, we need to be able to say Goodbye before we can work through our grief and go on and allow the healing to begin. A funeral is for those who are left - to gather together with family and friends to share the sadness and loss, and lighten the burden. A funeral or memorial is an expression of emotion, memory, respect and allows us to go forward.
