DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains will be an All Day ~ High Energy ~ Low Impact ~ Hands On ~ Drum:A:Thon with World~Class Drumming Facilitators This event will be a healing through rhythm experience with an emphasis on raising funds, awareness and support for people affected by cancer in the Ashe County North Carolina area and beyond.
Held in collaboration with DrumsForCures, Inc. out of Charlotte NC, Happy Beat Drumming out of High Point NC and Tuatha Dea out of Gatlinburg TN,DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains is sure to be one of the most memorible experiences ever for all who attend.
All Ages, All levels of those affected from survivors to family members and friends to those physically fighting the cancer battle are welcome. Cancer Inituatives are Encouraged to Attend. All attendees are Encouraged to participate.
DrumsForCures, Inc, a 501c3 non-profit organization, presents the annual DRUMSTRONG event (www.drumstrong.org) each May in Weddington, NC. DRUMSTRONG raises awareness and funds for important cancer organizations Globally through family friendly rhythm events. They are the planet's longest continuous drum:a:thon and literally drum to BEAT cancer!
Happy Beat Drumming (www.happybeatdrumming.com) presents drumming facilitations, healing through rhythm workshops and drumming how-to's throughout the Southeast and beyond. They also facilitate drum re-heading and how-to's on drum maintenance.
Tuatha Dea (www.tuathadea.com) is a Celtic drumming ensemble that fuses modern and folk sounds with the primal energy of the drum. Also, as Tuatha Dea Drum Nation, they too present healing rhythm facilitations and community and camaraderie building for children in public schools, corporate executives and cancer initiatives just to name a few.

Why Ashe County? Why Lansing, NC?
Its actually fairly simple reasoning.
NC Pagans Outdoors, the non-profit organization presenting DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains, is based in Ashe County (specifically Todd, NC). Chris and Teresa Hansen, Co-Founders and Co-Directors of the group have been organizing and presenting events in North Carolina; some as close as Boone, NC, for over a decade now.
Most of the events that NC Pagans Outdoors have either endorsed or presented have been several counties away and while these were great events they simply were not here nearby. For several years Chris and Teresa have been extremely interested in presenting an event that our Ashe County community could enjoy and would furthermore support.
This presented a challenge that they become dedicated to overcoming.
While the signs of Ashe County truly embracing diversity and in turn also beginning to develop a strengthening community and family dynamic were beginning to be seen, introducing an event that the whole of the community could support became paramount. Several ideas were considered that would have ultimately, either by dogma or belief systems, alienated some in the community.
As the intention of presenting an event to the Ashe County community has always been to present an event that the entire community could embrace and participate in that would also be mutually beneficial to ALL it became obvious that the one drawing factor that the Ashe County community would wholeheartedly embrace would be an event with a charitable cause as its foundation.
Namely, Cancer Awareness/ Fundraising.
Thus the idea of a DRUMSTRONG event came about.
Ashe County has been affected by cancer, directly and indirectly on so many levels. Rarely does a week pass that we do not hear of a member of our local community suffering with this terrible disease. Our community and the hopes of our future, with elders and children in our schools alike, has been literally attacked to the core.
DRUMSTRONG, presented each year by DrumsForCures Inc., embraces not only the multi-cultural and diversified experience that NC Pagans Outdoors wanted to present to our community but it also includes a healthy humanitarian cause...raising awareness and funds to BEAT cancer.
So, with the goal of full community participation and a strong humanitarian cause set in place the only further obstacle was to find a location. Our location, FORT AWESOME (the Old Lansing School) is one that everyone in the county knows.
Also, as Lansing is growing by leaps and bounds within a welcoming environment of diversity what better place to present such a wonderful event for our community.
Likewise, as Teresa and Chris Hansen live in Lansing it only made sense do present the event in their immediate neighborhood.
Come on out and DRUM YOUR ASHE OFF AGAINST CANCER at DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains!!!!

DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains ** DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer
is scheduled to be held on April 14th, 2012 from 10:00am-10:00pm at the Old Lansing School in Lansing, NC. This event is being presented to Ashe County as a collaborative effort between NC Pagans Outdoors of Todd, NC, DrumsForCures Inc of Charlotte, NC. Happy Beat Drumming of High Point, NC and Tuatha Dea Drum Nation of Gatlinburg, TN.
DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains ** DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer is designed to mirror the event that DrumsForCures Inc. presents and organizes globally each May and locally in Weddington, NC.
DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains ** DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer will be held as a means of funding cancer initiatives through
DrumsForCures Inc. as NC Pagans Outdoors chosen charity for 2012.
Participants will be lead by world-class drumming facilitators in a non-stop hands-on drumming experience throughout the day. Participants may come and go as they please and are encouraged to procure per hour Drumming Sponsorship Pledges and drum in Honor of or in Memory of someone or for their own Fortification.
It is a beautiful opportunity to show support for those individuals and families affected by cancer. Drumming will continue until 7:00pm (tentatively) at which point closing ceremonies will commence and Tuatha Dea will take the stage shortly after and present attendees with a Celtic/Primal Drumming concert.
The day will also include a Health Expo with several vendors including local cancer initiatives, Massage and Reiki practitioners and herbal & natural healing remedies. Many other activities will also be available including face-painting for all ages, hooping and yoga presentations, L.E.D. and fire-dancing after dark and several other activities yet to be determined.

"TEAM" work
At DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains ** DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer, and at every DRUMSTRONG event, opportunities to raise funds as TEAMs and/or individually are always available. DrumsForCures (the 501(c)(3) non-profit that presents DRUMSTRONG events) does not endorse any particular treatment or facility and funding is reached only through community participation at their events.
How "TEAM"work works...
a.Drumming teams and/or sponsors pick their specific charities.
The funds raised for those charities that teams and/or sponsors specifically choose are given directly to those charities in the team and/or sponsors name.
b.Any and All cancers and Any and All populations can be represented. Teams and Individuals raise funds through ‘per hour drumming’ sponsorships and the donations are disbursed to local and international cancer organizations.
If you and/or your organization have interest in participating in the drumming at DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains ** DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer as a sponsored team we would love to hear from you ASAP. The sooner you get in touch with us about your interest the sooner you can start to gather sponsors for your specific charity.

Donation/ Attendee Registrations for DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains are a minimum of only $15.00 per person or $25.00 per *family and just like any other donation that you may give to DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains 50% of those funds goes directly to DrumsForCures Inc.
*For the purposes of DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains, Family is defined as 2 Adults and 2-3 children age 11 and younger.

Participation in DrumSTRONG in the Mountains is strictly voluntary.
DrumSTRONG in the Mountains is a 50/50 fundraiser for NC Pagans Outdoors and DrumsForCures, INC. Donations accepted as event attendance fees, vendor fees, raffles sales, concessions and/ or sponsorships specific to funding overhead costs will be allocated via a 50/50 division with 50% going to NC Pagans Outdoors and 50% going to DrumsForCures, INC as an NC Pagans Outdoors charitable donation. Furthermore, all monies specifically earmarked for Cancer initiatives will be allocated to DrumsForCures, INC. to be given to speciifcs initiatives in the name of the benefactors/ contributors.
Volunteer Your Time
DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains **DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer is now accepting Volunteers.
In all honesty to put on an awesome event like DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains **DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer it takes many warm bodies and willing hands and backs to set up, break down (on Sunday), man (or woman..wink) booths including concessions, vending and the registration booth.
We will also need people to browse the crowd during the day to ensure a safe and healthy atmosphere. Some of these wonderful folks will be simply keeping an eye out for drummer fatigue and others may be shuffling drums and equipment for faciliators and the band.
In whatever form you are able we can use you ON CALL for 2 days before the event and also for the day after the event.
All volunteers for DRUMSTRONG in the Mountains **DRUM Your Ashe Off Against Cancer will be verbally acknowledged at the event and there WILL be several fringe benefits (still working on these lil
goodies) as well.

Food & Lodging
Camping Available scroll>>>
We are very happy to report that with a tiny bit of local cooperation between our group and the local American Legion Post #275 in Lansing, NC that overnight tent camping will be available at the American Legion Ball Field adjacent to the event location.
Camping will be tent only and will be first come first serve. Camping is FREE for individuals and groups that attend the event although donations would be greatly appreciated to help offset the cost of cleanup and maintenance of the camping area. As with all donations/proceeds given we will apply the intial 50% off the top to our chosen charity DrumsForCures Inc.
If you do choose to camp there will be a few rules that you will need to abide by as follows:
1. No digging up the ground for any reason.
2. No open fires! Grills and/or brasiers (above ground fire pits) are permitted although they MUST be watched and maintained at all times while burning.
3. Leave No Trace (LNT) and Matter Out Of Place (MOOP) rules will apply and you will be responsible for taking away ALL of your camps debri (this includes ashes and burned material).
4. NO Alcoholic Beverages.
5. Camp area is a designated quiet zone after dark. Evening and after event festivities will be at the event location only...please feel free to join the celebration.
FOOD
The Lansing NC American Legion Post #275 will be vending Hamburgers and Hotdogs throughout the day starting around 11:00am!!!
NC Pagans Outdoors will be providing a make your own salad and sandwich bar. All funds collected via the salad and sandwich bar will be also be allocated via the 50% to DrumsForCures Inc.
Water and Drinks will be available at both locations.
