How and Why We Praise and Worship God
JESUS SAID: “...the hour is coming, and now is when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
EXPLANATION?
Well, God desires to fill us with His Holy Spirit and to guide us into all truth. John 16:13
But what is this truth, some may ask?
Jesus said “Your word is truth.” John 17:17
IS THERE A CONCLUSION?
Yes, we believe that the Holy Bible, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, has been given to us to instruct us how to worship God. In this booklet we will explain WHY WE WORSHIP THE WAY WE DO, BASING OUR CONVICTIONS ON WHAT THE WORD OF GOD TEACHES. II Tim. 3:16-17
Can we use Old Testament scriptures to help determine how we should worship God today?
The answer is yes! Paul, the New Testament Apostle did.
“But this I confess to you that according to the Way which they call a sect, so worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written In the Law and in the Prophets.” Acts 24:l4
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Romans 15:4
"Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they are written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come. I Cor. 10:11

x. PROPHECY
The Old Testament prophet Joel predicted:
“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy…. Joel 2:28
This gift of prophecy was first given to the Church on the day of Pentecost (30 AD.), when 120 disciples of Jesus were Baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-8). It is still a vital part of the Church today.
Therefore, during our worship service an individual in the congregation may be inspired to speak out a word of prophecy to be heard by the entire church assembly. This is permitted according to I Cor 14:3.
The purpose of this inspired word from God is for our edification (to build us up), our exhortation (to stir us up), and our comfort ( to cheer us up) as is shown in I Cor. 14:3.
xi. TONGUES
Jesus said that one of the signs that would follow believers would be speaking in new tongues. Mark 16:17
This was fulfilled when believers in Christ were Baptized in the Holy Spirit and spoke with tongues. Acts 2:1-4, 10:44-46, 19:1-6
Paul the Apostle desired all Christians to speak in tongues and was grateful to God that he spoke in tongues more than anyone in the Corinthian Church. I Cor. 14:5, 18
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF TONGUES.
1- Whenever a tongue during a worship service, is distinctly heard above the rest of the congregation, it should be followed by an interpretation in the known language, English, in our case, thus building up the Church. (I Cor. 14:27)
2 - In our individual prayer life, a tongue spoken to God edifies (builds up) the believer. I Cor. 14:2
The Scriptures Inspired
2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21
The Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
The Trinity
Matthew 28:19, John 14:16-17, Luke 1:35, 1 Corinthians 1:24, Matthew 11:25-27,
Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 John 1:3-4
There is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these are equal in every divine perfection; and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
God the Father
God the Father, and infinite, personal, spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayers; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
Matthew 1:23, Hebrews 7:26, 1 Corinthians 15:3, Acts 1:9
Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, unrighteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is and abiding helper, teacher, and guide.
Fruits of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23
Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
The Salvation of Man
Luke 24:47, John 3:3, Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:13-15, Ephesians 2:8, Titus 2:11
All men are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that those who repent of their sins, trust and remain in Jesus Christ as Savior are saved from eternal damnation.
The Ordinances of the Church
Baptism in Water; Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 10:47,48, Romans 6:4,
Holy Communion; 2 Peter 1:4, 1 Corinthians 11:26
The universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the member of the local church the primary task of giving the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
The Baptism with the Holy Spirit
Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4, Acts 1:8, Acts 10:44-45, John 7:37-39, 1 Cor. 12-14
Divine Healing
Isaiah 53:4,5, Matthew 8:16,17, James 5:14-16
The Final Judgment
Matthew 25:26, Mark 9:43-48, Revelation 19:20, Revelation 20:11-15, Revelation 21:8,
The New Heavens and the New Earth
2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21, Revelation 2
The personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal happiness of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked.
