Today we worked on desensitizing to whip, plastic bags, and feed bags. He was sacked out with the bags and did very well. We did a bit of circle lunging. Much better going to the right then the left. Could be my fault aswell as I am a righty? After that we went for a walk around the yard. I cannot believe how well behaved he is becoming. He was not spooky, stayed in his space and responded to whatever I asked.
Clippers are the same as yesterday - no improvement.

We accomplished a lot today! First we started off with some desensitizing with the whip, cracking the whip on both sides of him, in front, and whirling it around his head. He was a bit nervous at first but relaxed quickly. Then we worked on circle lunging. He was a bit fast at first but I think a few more times and he will be more confident. Then I got him desensitized to plastic bags. He was extremely nervous/scared in the beginning but with some consistanty he quieted down quickly and realized they were not going to 'eat' him.
As for the clipping, still been trying at that. STILL fussy about the clipper being on and by his poll, perhaps he is ticklish? However, he is now perfect with me touching his ears all over so improvement there. We have also been working on giving to pressure, both laterally and vertically.

Baby and I worked on a few ground exercises today. First we did some desensitizing to rope and the whip. He did very well. Then we worked on yielding his hind and fore quarters. He was a bit confused at first but slowly got the hang of what I was asking him to do and what I wanted him to do. He is much better on his left side yielding than his right but hopefully he will get the hang of it soon. We also worked on backing, which he is doing good. He gets the concept but tends to zig zag a bit so we will be trying to straighten that up. Then we did a few minutes of lunging for respect towards the end.
We worked on clipper training again. He is getting my better about me handling his ears and poll but is still unsure about the clippers touching his face while they are on.

Today we worked on ponying William off of Nikki. He has done this about three times already. I was on Nikki bareback and had Will going very well next to us. We picked up the trot once and Will trotted with us, and he was excellent. After that time though, he would not trot beside us and refuse to move his feet. I decided to go back to the roundpen and worked on changing of directions in there for a while. He was exhausted. I have decided I will need to use the whip during 'ponying', so until we attempt that again I will desensitize him to the whip and get him used to that so hopefully our next experience is a success.
A bit later on we worked on clipper training. Yesterday he was a bit fussy and only got to run the clippers along his legs and body (while on). Today he was very good and let me touch his face with them all over. Still a bit toucy with his ears and polls but I am confident that by the end of the week he will master the clippers and realize they aren't going to eat him!
The Horse
Charms Bachelor Will is a 2008 Solid Paint Palomino Gelding. He is out of Deeflashyicebluecharm and Bachelorfoolishblonde. He is my pride and joy. I bought him February 2009. I have decided to begin most of his training using Clinton Anderson's Down Under Horsemanship. I feel that this is a good route to go and so far he is doing great with it.
I hope to turn William into a low level Eventer. I feel like he would excel at this but if he does not then we will go in the direction he excels at. The ultimate goal is to get him to trust me completely, which will not only make training him that much easier but also allowe him to be the best he can be and make our bond stronger.
