Runner up - Best Coastal Restaurant, Pub or Cafe in UK
Coast Magazine Awards 2010
Welcome!
to the website of our award winning tea rooms & garden, next door to Pevensey Castle (1066 & all that) & a short drive from the seaside at Pevensey Bay, Eastbourne & Bexhill. We do hope you'll come & join us in sunny Sussex very soon. In the meantime, kick off your shoes, relax & make yourself at home here...
We are the village green preservation society
Who we are & what we do
We believe that the food we eat should be local, seasonal, sustainable & traceable - its good for the planet & great for the palate. Our aim is that the majority of our produce is made here, from our own allotment or produced within 5 miles of Castle Cottage.
By supporting local producers & buying directly from farmers, we are reducing food miles, our carbon footprint & supporting our local community, economy & employment.
We make all our own cakes & scones using English butter & organic free range eggs from our own Hastings girls or the hens just up the road at Friday Street Farm.
Many of our ingredients are organic & where relevant, we only buy fairly traded goods. Our kitchen scraps feed a gang of Wiggly Wigglers worms or the birds in our garden.
The Tea Rooms and garden are no smoking areas. We politely ask our customers not to consume their own food or drink whilst visiting us.
We do not believe in adding a service charge. Any tips you may choose to leave all go to our staff.

Our food & Menu
Escape the everyday hustle & bustle - join us in our cosy Victorian country cottage for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea & cake.
A taste of our menu is below
At Castle Cottage we celebrate the almost forgotten things that used to make life better & finer. Like manners, tea pots, stew & dumplings, proper puds & custard, butter never margarine in all our baking, waitress (and/or waiter(!)) service at the table.
Our food is locally & ethically sourced – Fairtrade teas & coffee, organic eggs & meat from Friday Street Farm. We do not use any GMOs.
We aim to be as child friendly as possible & offer lots of options for people with allergies.
As much as possible is home cooked, fairly traded & delicious.
Jams, pickles & preserves
We love to preserve the bounty of the summer & enjoy it throughout the year.
Our preserves are made here at the cottage from produce from our allotment, from our families gardens & farm & from our mates – we are always happy to swap a few jars or a breakfast or three for a glut of their or indeed your veg!
We serve lots of our homemade chutneys, mustard & jams, and sell them too. Check what is currently on offer on the dresser, or drop us an email. We'll be selling them on the net soon too.

I treated myself to lunch here, in the middle of a manic day and it put me in the most fantastic mood. Wonderful appetiser, creamy delumptious soup, excellent roast and a sticky toffee pudding to die for. Washed down with white wine from a Battle v...vineyard. Mellow, happy atmosphere in lovely setting and great service too! Ooooh what people are missing if they go anywhere else.

came in last week found the service brilliant will visit more often when we move to Hastings
A beautiful sunny day, and a very empty tummies. Tea rooms so busy that there aren't even any empty tables outside. Hubby saved the day and fetched picnic blankets from the car, and we all (plus dog) settled on the lawn outside. A speedy cheerful waiter takes our order, and soon we are tucking into the most wonderful homemade sandwiches and cream teas, washed down with freshly made coffee and tea. Even the dog got a pat and a drink. What a magical afternoon in Pevensey! Thank you.
Linda Andrews on Facebook:
Enjoyed the good, friendly service plus the breakfast. Thank you!
Rosie Watson Powell on Facebook:
