Downtown Silver Spring is proud to celebrate the National Cherry Blossom Festival, it's history and to be the Maryland host site for this recognized worldwide celebration of culture, friendship exchange, tradition, and environmental recognition between Japan and the United States. The Silver Spring Big Cherry Block Party brings together cultures and traditions of Japan mixed with entertainment, activities for all ages, unique and traditional arts and crafts and more.Silver Spring joins in the upcoming Centenial 2011 events calendar celebrations starting this year!
The day will start with a cherry tree planting and ceremony along opening traditional Japanese entertainment. An entertainment schedule, activities and featured vendors will be going up in the next couple of weeks.
Unique Japanese and Asian food, arts, crafts and products are welceome. In addtion, a select group of unique one-of-a-kind arts and crafts vendors are also invited to apply. Applications will be up shortly. To find out more, email info_capitolmarketplaceevents.com.
Downtown SS is located by the Metro's Red Line Station in Silver Spring.There is plenty of parking located at the Wayne Avenue Garage and the Town Square Garage. The Wayne Avenue garage is located between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street. The Town Square Garage is located on the northeast corner of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street.

Driving From Downtown Washington
* Proceed North on 16th street towards Maryland.
* Merge right onto Alaska Avenue immediately after Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
* Turn left onto Georgia Avenue (MD-97 N) and proceed North
* Proceed North on Georgia Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to the center of Silver Spring.
Driving From the Beltway (I-495) from the west.
* Take Georgia Avenue (MD-97 S) exit (Exit 31B S) towards Silver Spring.
* Proceed South on Georgia Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles to the center of Silver Spring.
Driving From the Beltway (I-495) from the east.
* Take Colesville Road (US 29) exit (Exit 30) towards Silver Spring.
* Proceed South on Colesville Road for approximately 1.5 miles to the center of Silver Spring.
By Metro: Metro's Red Line Station in Silver Spring.
By Ride -On-Bus:
The Silver Spring station is served by Ride-On routes, 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,22,28.
By Metrobus:
The Silver Spring station is served by Metrobus routes 70,71,J5,F4,F6,JHI,J2,J3 ,J4,Q2,S2,S4,Y8,Z5.
Parking:
Downtown Silver Spring offers plenty of parking in public parking garages lots throughtout downtown. The public garages offer free parking on evenings and weekends and County holidays.
