[TRAILER]Tuesday, September 13 | 7PM -- Admission is just $3In a half-changed world, women are often forced to choose: Mothering or working? Your children's wellbeing or your own own? Responsibility or self expression? Who Does She Think She Is?, a documentary by Academy Award winning filmmaker Pamela Tanner Boll, features five fierce women who refuse to choose. Through their lives, we explore some of the most problematic intersections of our time: mothering and creativity, partnering and independence, economics and art. Along the way, the film invites us to consider both ancient legacies of women worshipped as cultural muses and more modern times where most people can't even name a handful of female artists. In the end, the diverse women in the film demonstrate that our creativity and our caregiving are not mutually exclusive, but deeply connected. Page 1 WELCOMECapitol Cinema Collective welcomes you to the 5th Annual Hartford International Film Festival! We are proud to bring four days of innovative independent film to our great city. This year we will screen 14 films at five venues in Hartford. We are eager to present films from near and far, films from talented local filmmakers as well as films from the other side of the globe.We started this film festival because we love film and we love our city. Film has both the power to entertain us and inspire us. We believe that the films at this years festival do both. Enjoy the festival and enjoy Hartford!HISTORYCapitol Cinema Collective [CCC] was formed in 2004 when a group of Hartford film lovers and filmmakers got together at La Paloma Sabanera Coffeeshop on Capitol Avenue and started showing some of their favorite films. These screenings grew in size and soon CCC was holding free weekly screenings known as Kino Kafe La Paloma. These screenings included films from every genre and often prompted rich discussion.CCC identified that Kino Kafe offered an important opportunity to use film to build community in Hartford, bringing people together to both be entertained as well as discuss important issues.But it didnt stop there. Film is about telling stories and Hartford is rich with stories. It was this understanding that led CCC to create LoRes Fest, a weekend of grass roots video filmmaking that offers participants the opportunity to make their own short film in Hartford in a 24-hour period. These short films are then edited together into a video collage that offers a glimpse at a few of Hartfords stories.CCC has a vision for an international film festival that showcases local filmmaking as well as films from around the world. CCC also recognizes that film has the ability to strengthen our connections to one another as human beings. This understanding deepens our commitment to CCC and all of its potential. We look forward to the future of film in Hartford. We thank you for joining us.

After making music videos for everyone from Will.I.Am to Kanye West, Nabil Elderkin has made an astonishing film on the positive effect of hip-hop dance on youths in Ugandaa country burned over by colonialism, director Idi Amin, poverty, and ethnic warfare. The film follows hip hop artist Crazy Legs (of Rock Steady Crew) as he travels with Abrahmz Tekya, a b-boy devotee who established Break-dance Project Uganda to teach hundreds of Ugandan youths to express themselves through dance. While the film shows that Uganda is one of the worst places on earth to be a child, it is also a testament to the resilience of young people, and the power of hip hop culture as a weapon of truth.
