Cook Book Kids.pdf
If you like to bake, and if you like to try new recipes, you should write a cookbook! Write down your favorite recipes that you cook in the kitchen. Use your creativity to think of even more fun recipes!
Recipes for Success!
Writing a cookbook takes a lot of skill. You have to create the recipes, calculate the food measurements, and keep tasting until you get it just right. Because of the level of difficulty, writing a cookbook is recommended for ages 9 or higher.
You'll want to ask your mom or dad to help you in the kitchen. Some utensils can be dangerous, such as sharp knives. So be extra careful.
First, think of yummy foods you like to eat. Write them down in your notebook. Here are the 7 things you will need to write down for each recipe.
Now you will need to create recipes. Start with an existing recipe and then add your own touch. Ask your grandma to share her recipes, or check the internet for recipes. Remember the copyright laws, so you cannot simply copy someone elses recipe.
Instead, think of how you can take a standard recipe and make it your own. Think of things you can add or change to make it original. Be bold and try some new food combinations!
Experiment. Try different things until you find the recipe you like best. Remember to WRITE DOWN each ingredient and HOW MUCH you put in. So when you find the perfect combination, youll remember what you put in, and how much.
Testing all those recipes can be yummy and also messy. Remember to clean up the kitchen when you are done making food.
Be sure to have your family members test the food before your put the recipes into your book. When you finish, youll have a printed cook book and a full stomach!
7 Ingredients for Recipes:
1. Recipe Name
2. Type (breakfast, lunch, dinner,
appetizer, snack, dessert, drink)
3. Good points about this recipe
4. Ingredients
5. Amounts of each ingredient
6. Directions to make it
7. Serving instructions
Do you enjoy poetry? You probably already have poems that youve written. Just select the best ones for your new book! Writing a poem takes some thought and concentration. So we recommend it only for children who are ages 10 or more.
Open your notebook and start writing out your poems. It may take a while as you stop to think before you write. If its not perfect, write it down anyway. Then re-arrange the phrases later. Its best to brainstorm first.
After you write a phrase, say it out loud. Listen for the rhythm and cadence. If your sentence doesnt flow naturally, keep the same thought BUT swap the words around.
To keep your poem fresh and original, dont use the same words over. Instead, think of similar words you can use. Look up synonyms at www.Dictionary.com.
Ask your mom to read your poem aloud. Watch her face carefully. When she has a puzzled look or a frown, you know that is a phrase you should revise.
Your poety book should have about 7 poems. You don't want to include too many, because your reader should pause to think about each poem.
Remember to include an illustration for each poem. You can draw it yourself, use a photo, or print it out.
To start, open your notepad to start sketching out ideas. The 7 elements you will need in each poem are:
Where do you draw your ideas from? Just look around you! A poem can be about something that happened to you or someone else. It can be about school, or church, or your home. Think about nature or animals.

"There are only 2 kinds of jokes: funny and not funny."
Joke Books Kids.pdf
Rules for Jokes:
1. Do not use profanity, vulgarity, racial slurs, or personal attacks
2. Do not use jokes to harass other people or joke about tragedies
3. Do not put down another culture. To make fun of an entire group of people,
use a make-believe name that is not offensive.
All the rules can all be summed up with one simple saying, Be polite! If you want to make a point about a person, then make yourself the butt of the joke, instead of someone else. If you make jokes about other people, they may not get your humor. They may feel you are picking on them and it may hurt their feelings.

Comic Book Action
Wham! Pow! Swak! Get in on the action by writing your own comic book. To write a comic book, you need to be able to spell and to draw pictures. Comic book writers should be at least 9 years old.
To get ideas, first brainstorm. Think about your favorite comics you enjoy reading. What type do you want it to be?
Types of Comic Books:
• Super Heroes
• Funny Comics
• Story Comics
Open up your notebook. First, write out the below 7 questions at the top of each page. Then, give it some thought and answer each question. You will have 1 to 3 sentences for each answer.
Next, turn to a new page in your notebook and begin writing your story. If you get stuck, ask your parents for help. Once you have the story written out, its time to put it into your book.
You will need to plan 4 to 6 scenes per page. Each scene will have a picture and some text. The text will either be quotes (people talking) or narration for the reader.
Sketch out each page and the graphics. Outline your illustrations with a light pencil before coloring them in, so that you can change things if needed.
Use colored pencils for your pictures and a black ink pen for your lettering. Write in nice, neat letters. Doesnt that look fantastic!
And guess what? You are now a comic book writer!

2. What is the title?
