Homeless Educational Enhancement Program
“ Education was one of the few stabilities that I had in my life...That was the greatest gift. Everything else was taken away from me, but education wasn’t. Even though it was a battle and a roller coaster, it was a sense of normalcy for me. It made the difference..."

About Us
A good education lays the foundation for stability and prosperity in adulthood. It provides young people with the intellectual and emotional tools they need to grow and succeed. Yet for youth experiencing homelessness and those in out-of-home care, a good education is all too elusive.
The challenge of providing an education for homeless students is growing. Over 1.35 million children experience homelessness each year. After receiving reports that up to 50% of homeless children were not attending school, Congress established the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The McKinney-Vento Act was created with the goal of ensuring the enrollment, attendance, and success of homeless children and youth in school. It provides states with funding to help remove barriers to education.
For the past eighteen years, the Caddo Parish School System, in collaboration with Centerpoint and area shelters (Rescue Mission, Providence House, YWCA Family Violence Center, Salvation Army, Jewell House and Highland Haven) have joined forces to develop and implement a program that targets enhancing the educational needs of homeless children and their families as well as those at risk of becoming homeless.
The Caddo Parish School Board Homeless Education Program identifies homeless children and youth and removes any barriers that would prevent them from attending school.
According to the McKinney-Vento Act, homeless children and youth have the right to
Qualifications
