iphone killed my camera
My iPhone killed my Camera: 27% of Pictures Now Taken by Smartphones
According to a
study done by the NPD Group
, Smartphones are fast becoming the go-to device for many picture-talking folks. 27% of all photos in 2011 were taken by smartphones – up from 17% in 2010. Traditional cameras took just 44%, down from 52% last year.
Some of that growing trend may be attributed to comfort, some to the growing popularity of photo-based social networks (like Facebook or
Instagram
), but much is due to the increasing sophistication of the phone-cameras themselves: iPhone 4s's camera has 8 mega pixels (a long way from the 2 mega-pixels in the original 2007 iPhone) – identical to Android's Galaxy S II.

Amazon and Apple soar in customer satisfaction; Netflix takes a plunge
Customer experience analytics company ForeSee released its year-end customer service poll, revealing some interesting trends: while Amazon continues to top consumer satisfaction in online retail, Netflix’s blunders in 2011 (including price hikes in the summer and the failed attempt to split its DVD-by-mail service into a different business) cause it to trail in every category: content, site functionality, merchandise and prices.
Next to Netflix, both Gap (down 6% to 73 out of 100) and Overstock.com (down 5% to 72 out of 100) saw the largest declines in satisfaction, leaving them with scores at the bottom of the Index.

New governmental tribute is a series of giant iPhones
Steve Jobs spent his 40-year career trying to make all things smaller, which only makes the U.S. Patent Office in Alexandria’s tribute to the tech giant that much stranger: a display of dozen or so huge iPhones in the building.
These much bigger-than-life iPhones display 12 of Apple's most famous patents, from the early Mac to the company's magnetic power cable.

The BBC confirms 3D plans for London Olympics, 100m men’s final gets the go-ahead
Almost two-and-a-half years ago, the BBC’s Director for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Rogery Mosey,
outlined the broadcaster’s vision
for the sporting extravaganza, noting its plans to broadcast “every single hour of every sport”, as well as outlining its plans for mobile.
The possibilities of 3D was also floated at the time, and it was finally confirmed last August that some events would indeed be broadcast in 3D. As part of a 3D-trial, the BBC has now confirmed which events they will be: The Opening Ceremony, the Closing Ceremony, the Men’s 100m final and highlights package at the end of each day.
