Aims and objectives of the class

To introduce children to books and stories

To introduce children to simple songs and rhymes teaching them basic concepts such as numbers, colours and the ABC

To help develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and dexterity through carefully planned activities

To help them develop their social skills essential for communication such as listening, turn-taking and sharing

To have a go at playing different instruments

To make new friends and have fun

Likely achievements

After completing this course most children will attain some or all of the following achievements:

An appreciation of music and literacy

Some or all of the pre-reading skills vital for school

An understanding of basic numbers, colours, weather terms, body parts and days of the week

Knowledge of simple rhymes

Some or all of the vital social skills needed for school

Display signs of emergent writing skills

Improved hand-eye co-ordination and dexterity

Knowledge of the alphabet

Bright BeginnersThis programme is specifically designed for the pre-reader and provides a fun introduction to learning about books and stories. In this class we concentrate on developing all the essential pre-reading skills and social skills through fun-filled activities such as music, movement and dance, games with hoops, parachutes and beanbags, and short stories.We recognise the need for toddlers to move around and make a noise so this class is very lively, up-beat and energetic whilst being educationally sound and lots of fun. This programme provides an excellent introduction to Bright Explorers but is not essential.
