We are a small cattery located in Lisbon, Portugal and registered under the name of “Blue Sentinel” within FIFE. We are dedicated to breed and show only Russian Blue cats. Having one or two litters a year, our main concern is about the quality of our cats and not it’s numbers. For us, breeding is a hobby and not a business.!
While breeding we try to enhance some features of the breed, following the guidelines oficialy recognized by FIFE. Our breeding cats are carefully chosen, not only to pass along to they’re offspring the Russian’s beautifull look but also it’s wonderfull and charming character. Our cats health and psychological wellbeing is the most important thing. We are a cattery scanned negative for Fiv and Felv.
At cattery Blue Sentinel, cats are a part of the family and live among us, getting all the attention and cuddling as they want and that’s something we absolutly make sure our kittens will get once they leave our house and join theyre new families.
The true origin of the Russian Blue cat remains surrounded in mystery and incertainties, but it’s believed that this natturally occurring breed came from the port of Archangel, located in Russia.
Following World War II, due to a lack of numbers of Russian Blue cats, some breeders, in an effort to maintain and expand the breed’s gene pole, started to cross breeding it with cats of similar phenotypes, British Blues and also the blue point Siamese.
The Russian Blue is a very intelligent and charming cat, developing extremely loyal bonds to their loved ones. Usually shy around strangers, they get along very well with other pets and children in the household.
The Russian Blue has a lean elongated body and a short, thick, plush, blue-grey and unique double coat. It has large ears and almond shaped vivid green eyes.
