The BlueGrassHoppers
an L.A. based bluegrass and old-time string band
About Us & Old-Time and Bluegrass Music
Music from the southern Appalachian region of the United States developed out of a mixture of traditions brought from Europe and Africa. Its roots can be traced back to African American, Celtic, English, Scottish, and other inuences. Old-Time music is inspired by the 78 rpm recordings released in the 1920s and 1930s that featured local musicians and were sold largely to a local audience. Southern Appalachian music lies at the roots of country music, including the smaller and more dened genre, Bluegrass, which appeared in the 1940s under the inspired leadership of Bill Monroe. Old-Time and Bluegrass were revived in the 1960s and again in the 21st century, played by musicians who love the wild old/new sounds of this music. The BlueGrassHoppers perform on a variety of stringed instruments including fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and bass, with
the occasional addition of kazoo, harmonica, foot tapping, and jug. Reels, waltzes, sizzling strings, wacky banjos, oddball humor and heartfelt songs about horse races, crawdads, and other loves should keep you dancing, crying, laughing or at least stomping your feet!
