Journey to the Top: How 3 Photographers Landed their Big Breaks

When you’re an artist, your big break can take several different forms. Many look back at the moment that solidified them as a career artist as: a first commission, sale, gallery showing, or feature write-up in a magazine. But for 3 Wix photographers, their big break propelled them straight to the world stage when they were selected to shoot the cover of a major magazine!

This past summer, Wix teamed up with Condé Nast, one of the biggest magazine publishers on the planet, to give 3 lucky Wix photographers the opportunity to shoot the cover of Brides, Condé Nast Traveler and assist the one and only Peter Lindbergh for a Vanity Fair cover shoot.

Here’s the story of 3 photographers who went from contest applicants to shooting magazine covers:

Tony Salvagio from street photographer to Hollywood stars

When Tony heard that he was selected to be the assistant photographer for a Vanity Fair shoot, he could never have imagined just how big he scored.

The morning of the shoot, all that Tony knew was that he’d be meeting the Vanity Fair crew at the Paramount Studio lot, where he’d be introduced to the rest of his cover shoot team. Little did he know, that team consisted of famed photographer Peter Lindbergh and one of the biggest names in Hollywood, the one and only Jennifer Lawrence!

Max Montgomery, the pedigree photographer

At the age of 13, Max Montgomery was gifted his first camera by his father, a professional photographer. By age 18 he landed an internship gig with fashion photographer Mario Testino. Now, at 27 it should come as no surprise that he was hand picked over thousands of submissions to shoot the cover of Brides Magazine.

Max’s background in fashion photography is what helped him stand out in this competition. “A background in fashion photography is something Brides looks for when choosing who to work with, so Montgomery’s experience is part of what made him a good fit.” – Jenifer Walter (Creative Director, Brides Magazine)

Nicholas La, the fresh perspective

Condé Nast Traveler’s November issue is the reader’s choice edition and how fitting that crowd favorite photographer and fan, Nicholas La, was selected to shoot the cover. Nicholas was hand picked over thousands of entries by Condé Nast Traveler’s Creative Director, Yolanda Edwards to shoot the iconic Eiffel Tower from a fresh perspective. Nicholas is best known for capturing some of the world’s most famous sites from a heart-stopping aerial view. Pair that with the fact that this was Nikk’s first trip to the city of lights, and you’ve got the recipe for a praise-worthy shot of one of the world’s most photographed beauties.
