This trend of finding new usage for old stuff is part of the widespread eco-friendly movement. It literally means modifying one object so that it will have the purpose of another.
Upcycling and repurposing are not only great methods to protect the environment, they also push designers to be extra creative in their work. As you can see below, people get really crazy in coming up with new ways to use old things.
