Introducing the Wix Forums Moderators

Wix Forum

Our forums are the place to go when you’re looking for a quick advice, a workaround, or a focus group for your new website. Our online community is open 24/7 and hosts an interesting mix of international Wix pros, new members, staff, friends, and an occasional conspiracy theorist claiming our editor is a ploy to bring down the government. As you can imagine, such a large and diverse community requires professional moderation to guarantee that fair play is observed and that no query, however trivial, is left unadressed. This incredible task is performed by a group of dedicated and professional volunteers who’ve made themselves available around the clock to help members in need. They are our trusted partners, our global extended family, and the people to whom we owe so much of what we know about our clients’ needs and wants.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the moderators:

Name: Mario Gerada

Nationality: Australian

Position: Support & Lobby Forums Moderator

How did you get started on the forum?

A friend needed a website and a way to sell her products. Being computer literate with many years of computing I decided to assist and looked for options on the internet. I found Wix.

Main challenges faced on the job as a new moderator:

The main challenge is being able to pinpoint the problem when members don’t post clearly. Saying something ‘isn’t working’ doesn’t really cut it. The more information I get, the more efficiently and accurately I can fix the problem.

If you had to give some advice to new forum members to help them run their website, what would it be?

Read the stickys before posting. Post clearly and be civil. Most importantly: backup Your sites.

Most bizarre post you ran into:

A member posted that he lost his Blackberry on a Taxi in Dubai and asked for our help.

Name: Ileana Rossello

Nationality: Italian

Position: Italian & Spanish Forums Moderator

How did you get started on the forum?

I was a Wix member who had just translated the Italian FAQ and felt I could do a lot more. I asked if I could offer any additional help and the the reply was “how’d you feel about opening Italian and Spanish Forums?”. There were none before, it was an honor!

Main challenges faced on the job as a new moderator:

Since the forum was new, no one was aware of its existence. We had to spread the gospel and let Italian and Spanish users know they had a home with Wix. That took a while.

If you had to give some advice to new forum members to help them run their website, what would it be?

Have fun with Wix, you’ll have a lot! But remember: back up your site immediately, do not put mini pages into mini pages, limit picture size, fill in SEO sections. With all that done, the rest is really all about your creativity!

Most bizarre post you ran into:

Someone left me a post saying “please change your avatar, it scares me”.

Name: Marius Julien (aka ‘Ooction’)

Nationality: French

Position: French Forum Moderator

How did you get started on the forum?

I was a regular Wix user who evolved into a pioneer (a beta tester). I spent so much time working on the editor that I felt I was becoming extremely Wix savvy and decided I wanted to share my knowledge with my community – the French community. Three months and many posts later I applied for the moderator’s role and what-do-you-know, I’m here!

Main challenges faced on the job as a new moderator:

Getting timely updates on new developments so I can keep members in the loop and address their issues.

If you had to give some advice to new forum members to help them run their website, what would it be?

After addressing a probelm I always mark the thread as solved and attach relevant tags. Therefore, I encourage members to click these tags or aimply use the “advanced search” before posting. Most chances are that the answer you’re looking for is already out there ; )

Most bizarre post you ran into:

Well, the most bizzare post was actually my own – lol. It was my first post on the English Support forum as part of a thread opened by Mario, the virtual Crocodile Dundee! We exchanged quite a few blows on the public forum and in private but today I consider him to be a really good collegue and friend.
