Our Biblical Doctrine.pdf
We are located in Duncan, BC in the beautiful Cowichan Valley. We are a church community who bases our beliefs on the Word of God, as we are called out to be a Beacon of Hope in the Valley. We dedicate our lives to do the will of God and to spread the Good News about Christ Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. Being located in town has given us the opportunity to be able to reach out to the community in various ways. By God's grace, we are able to host a community breakfast once a month and a thrift store twice a month and a youth outreach program called Young Life.
We faithfully serve with a Christ-like heart to bring glory to our Lord. We unselfishly commit ourselves through doctrinally sound preaching and teaching to carry out the work of the Lord.
Our History
Bethel Baptist Church has experienced a rich heritage of ministry in the Cowichan Valley for the last 71 years. Bethels heritage began when two men from Central Baptist Church in Victoria had a vision for establishing a church plant in the Cowichan Valley. In 1937 25-30 people gathered for the first worship meetings downtown Duncan.
On June 12, 1940, an organizational meeting was called and Bethel Baptist Church became officially constituted. The newly formed congregation called their first pastor to lead the church.
In 1950 the churches vision for building their own building was realized as they moved to its present location on Ypres st. In 1949, the church became burdened for the people of Cobble Hill. A Sunday school program was started in the home in Cobble Hill. The vision to plant a church developed to the point that in 1953, eleven members were sent to form the new church in Cobble Hill. In September of 1955, Cobble Hill Baptist Church gained official recognition and continues to be an influence in the Cobble Hill area.
Continued growth in the church moved the congregation to increase the size of its facility, so in 1958, the church built a new auditorium and added a portable to its current site. The church began to have a vision to create a Christian camp in the Cowichan Valley. The church secured property in Crofton and the camp was named Camp Qwanoes.
In 1974 as Bethel continued to grow they were lead to start a church in the Lake Cowichan area. In 1975, the church voted to sponsor a small independent church in Lake Cowichan. In 1975, the church was officially recognized and was called Beaver Road. Baptist Church.
In 1976 Bethel began to hold afternoon services enabling some of its members to help plant a church in Ladysmith. Bethel supported the new church prayerfully and financially with the result of a new church being planted and becoming officially constituted.
Bethel Baptist Church has a rich heritage of Godly pastors and leaders. It is our desire as we continue to serve the Lord in the Cowichan Valley, that we would be usable by God to do as He asks following His will for our Church.
