1. How much will it cost to join a sorority?
Dues vary each semester, but we do have the lowest dues on campus. Dues are usually around $200-$250 per semester.
2. Is there any hazing during the new member process?
No, Salisbury Greek Organizations do not condone any hazing. The new member process is six weeks long in which our girls participate in weekly meetings to learn the history of the sorority, gain experience taking leadership roles, do community service projects, and build friendships with active sisters.
3. How much of a time commitment is it?
Sorority is like any other extracurricular activity, it does require a time investment. Through Greek involvement your daughter will learn how to balance academics, work, campus involvement, and social commitments.
4. How does my daughter go about joining a sorority?
Sororities organize a week long process called recruitment. In the spring, the four SU sororities plan Formal Recruitment (FMR). During FMR, your daughter will get the chance to meet all four sororities on campus and on the final day receive a bid. On Bid Day your daughter may be invited to join a sorority by accepting a bid to join that organization.
In the fall, Informal Recruitment takes place. During Informal girls attend separate weeks of recruitment for the different sororities. If you have any questions feel free to contact our recruitment chair, you can find her email on the recruitment section of this website.
5. Will joining a sorority impact my daughter's grades?
School comes before everything sorority related. AST continues to maintain the Highest GPA on campus. Though joining a sorority may be a time commitment, Greek females are maintaining a higher GPA than non-Greek females at Salisbury University.
There are many resources we provide, for our sisters, study hours, tutors, study buddies, and incentives for receiving good grades. If a sister receives poor grades there are consequences. Scholarships and Greek Honor Councils are made available to sisters upon applying to them.
6. What are the benefits of being in a sorority?
Gaining experience in taking on leadership roles and helping out the community, making quality friendships, and having a memorable college experience! Another benefit is our connection with alumnae from all chapters of Alpha Sigma Tau which allows sisters to network for job opportunities.
7. What are the requirements to join a sorority?
The requirements to join AST are a minimum of 12 college credits and a
2.5 overall GPA.
