This portfolio contains some of my favorite works completed while handling Public Relations for various events and functions at Georgia College & State University.
According to Smith Magazine, the home of the Six Word Memoir, “Everyone has a story. Can you tell yours in six words?” The purpose is just that – Tell your entire life story in exactly six words. After years of being told that my life NEEDED to be featured on its own Reality TV show, I decided to take it and run with it.
Following in the footsteps of industry trend and hot on the tail of its revolutionary boom, I have come to learn a lot about Social Media – How to create it, how to use it and how to sustain it. After taking on restaurant Amici Italian Café as a client and building them a Social Media presence, I created this flyer to spread the word.
In addition, as part of a planned viral marketing campaign, I wrote these .60 and .30 radio advertisements featuring fictional “college girl” Danielle DeManzo, a unique student who comes home from an Italian study abroad program in each segment because she just can’t bear to be so far from her favorite restaurant here in the States.
Working alongside the Sports Information Director at Georgia College & State University for the duration of a Spring semester, I worked on a variety of different public relations tasks. One of them included writing press releases for the Athletic department. After receiving a topic, I would gather information, contact sources, draft the release and disseminate it.
As an additional means of publicizing the Athletics department, I created a weekly Tabletent. These tri-folded papers stood on each table in GCSU’s dining hall and advertised for each athletic event to come during that week. They seem to have worked, as well. Attendance at athletic events that semester was on an upward trend.
I also worked one of three teams that pitched themes to the Athletic department for their annual Bobcat Athletics Auction, which raises $45,000 a year. The team I worked with coined the term Tropic Thunder (an ode to Thunder the Bobcat, our mascot) and pitched a luau theme. I graphically designed this logo myself as part of the theme.
Another interesting client experience was working on various Public Relations tasks for Saint Brigid Cattholic Church, in Alpharetta, Georgia. In addition to writing press releases, creating flyers, initiating a Social Media presence and more, I created this brochure for distribution with basic information about the church.
The Big Read, a program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, has a simple goal of “inspiring people across the country to pick up a good book.” I worked on Public Relations with other students to promote 2009’s selection, Fahrenheit 451, One of the events we publicized surrounding the event, The Silent Disco, was publicized with this flyer.
In addition to promoting 2009’s Big Read selection, we conducted a survey to help the coordinator of The Big Read in Middle Georgia select the book most wanted by the community for the 2010 Big Read. I designed the survey myself to include a logo, directions, book titles with author, and a short plot description all on a half sheet of paper.
