The Benedict Inn Retreat & Conference Center, housed in the former Our Lady of Grace Academy, opened in 1981 and was founded on the 5th century teachings of Benedict of Norcia, Italy. In The Rule of Benedict, St. Benedict provided a guideline for those seeking happiness and spiritual fulfillment through a search for God in the ordinary aspects of daily life -- eating, sleeping, working, praying -- all performed in moderation. In effect, Benedict endorsed a balanced life. He also believed spiritual progress depended on finding Christ in each person. As a result, his directive to "Let everyone who comes be received as Christ" flowered into the renown hospitality for which all Benedictine monasteries are now known.
From these values of moderation, hospitality and diversity sprouted our mission. We offer a variety of programs for men, women and children of all ages and faiths as well as exceptional rental facilities for use by a diverse roster of organizations for their own programs. In this way, we reach out to the community with our hospitality and encourage the growth of our guests through opportunities for spiritual, emotional, intellectual and social interaction.

Time Management: The Epic Drama of
Order vs Chaos
Monday, March 12, 2012
Time management is an oxymoron according to Michele Wood. Time simply is. Issues with time and the need to manage or control the many ways we spend that time or our need to accomplish and measure success are the true issues. If you have the ability to embrace the ridiculous and shake up the way you may think, then carve out a little Time for this workshop.
Speaker:Michele Kuntz Wood, NP

She is a Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health and reports enjoying a 38 year nursing career caring for women and their families. Fear Management: The Voice of truth
Monday, April 9, 2012
Fear… it threatens to ground us all. To keep us tethered to the ground where we think it’s safe. Fear does NOT want you up in the air. And it’s the single biggest reason that you don’t soar.
But we can refuse to give in to fear. God wants us to cut the ropes of fear and live an abundant life. Learn how to listen to the voice of truth, find a way out of fear, and live life at 30,000 feet. The view from there is spectacular!!
Speaker: Dr. Jodie Ferise
Dr. Ferise teaches full time at the University of Indianapolis School of Business where she has been a professor since 2007. In 2010, Dr. Ferise was honored as the UIndy School of Business Teacher of the Year, and was a finalist for the university-wide Teacher of the Year in 2011.

Pain Management:Vitality Sculpting –and Healthy Mind Set
Monday, June 11, 2012
Stress and pain are interrelated. Stress can exacerbate pain and in many scenarios be the source of pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Learning to manage stress and pain intelligently through connecting with our innermost systems (musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, organs, etc.) provides the most holistic healing process.

What is this mysterious process that enables us to see the “crosses” of our daily lives turned into “crowning” moments of blessings?
What is it in our FAITH that enables us to stay on the journey toward Jesus even “when things get rough?”
These Lenten Evenings will offer a process, along with prayer and reflection to deepen one’s love for Christ: both crucified and resurrected!
Each evening’s topic will stand alone. Attend all sessions or just 1 or 2, whatever suits your spiritual or educational needs.
Join us each Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. for Mass at the Monastery and 6:30 p.m. dinner at Benedict Inn(OPTIONAL) Program starts at 7 p.m.

Listen with the ear of your heart.
~Rule of Benedict
A Contemplative approach to Spiritual Direction.
Because spiritual direction ministers to those who journey toward
God, it holds a special place in the work of the Benedict Inn.
Spiritual Direction, The Benedict Inn & Benedictine Way
Spiritual Direction is a relationship between a trained, competent director and a person (directee) who desires to grow in her/his relationship with God. The spiritual director assists the directee in uncovering and discovering the direction of God in the everyday experience of life.
The directee yearns for a greater union with God and desires a deeper meaning of life -- to live more fully in God's presence. The director listens and discerns the movements of the Spirit with the directee, who grows spiritually day by day.
Benedict Inn is a place where you can meet spiritual directors who have been schooled in the area of "listening with the ear of their heart." It is a place where you can be certain you will be welcomed, listened to, encouraged, supported, treated with the spirit of love and understanding, all with complete confidentiality and respect.
Spiritual direction is a time to share the way you experience God in your everyday life. Every day. Every way. It is a time to share your dreams, your hopes, your fears, your concerns and the chanllenges life offers you.
The Purpose of Spiritual Direction ~~ INNtrospection
1. Growth in self-knowledge by bringing to the surface abiding tendencies of the heart.
2. Growth in the ways of discernment by recognizing the movement of God in one's life.
3. Growth in ways to respond to God that are healing, reconciling, just and right for all creation.

Our Labyrinth is a replica of an ancient one constructed around 1200 AD in the stone floor of Chartres Chtherdral, France. The labyrinth is an archetype, a divine footprint, found in all reilgious traditions in various forms around the world.
Unlike a maze, the labyrinth has only a single path so there are no tricks to it and no dead ends.
The path winds and becomes a mirror for where we are in our lives, touching our sorrows and releases our joys. Walk it with an open mind and heart.
There is no right or wrong way to walk the labyrinth. The same path is followed both entering and leaving. You may pass people or let others step around you. Do what feels natural. Allow yourself to find the pace your body wants to go.
Many find a sense of peace, energy and vitality after the experience. Others feel a great calm. Whatever you feel is right for you at the time.
