The ceramic art studio of artists Carol Mullen & Carolyn McDonough-Smith is truly a hidden treasure in the heart of Tucson. Tucked away in a charming historical 1930s spanish hacienda transformed into an intimate artist colony the two create functional & decorative ceramic art.
Carol, mom of two adult daughters, lives in the desert with her husband Chris. She is a retired physician living her dream creating wheel thrown pottery & hand built items adding rich layers of earth toned glazes.
Carolyn juggles her days in the studio with raising 4 daughters with her husband John. An artist most of her life, clay is her passion. She loves hand building, adding texture to embellish the surface & completing with layered glazes.

History
Bello Barro Ceramic Arts Studio opened its doors in January 2010 in Placita de la Luna, an intimate artist colony in the heart of Tucson. The studio is housed in a 1934 historical building converted into private artist studios. The original structure kept intact, the interiors transformed, thick adobe walls and spanish style archways connect rooms opening to a lovely central courtyard, a gathering spot for creative spirits. The hacienda style building was originally a family home built with adobe from the site by members of the Pasqui Yaqui tribe who lived on the reservation just south of the complex. Over the years the home was added onto according to the family's needs. As time passed , sadly the building changed hands, family home turned brothel & drug house, run down & damaged by illegal activities. In 2006, Susan & Greg Alexander, visionaries, artists & owners of Maggie Mayes Tattoos saw the propery's potential, they purchased the building and began the transforrmation, one room at a time. Bello Barro is proud to be apart of the new history.
