Artist Statement
In my work I explore personal relationships; creating characters and scenes with posed, costumed actors to make my own tableau vivant. I use classical or well-known art to influence my staging and marry the art of theater and photography. I employ art such as the Raft of Medusa to bring a more theatrical feel to my pieces. I approach my work as a director using my photography as a means of storytelling.
I want to provoke the viewer to recall emotions and situations that they have been through before. In turn, they view and interpret the pieces through their personal experiences. As with any story the creator would like the viewer to become invested in it. I feel that anyone should be able to relate to my pieces. Visually there should be just enough to give the viewer a starting point to interpret the piece and insert his or her own story.
