2011 Big City Combine
The Football Combine begins Saturday May 7 at Big City Field. Cost is $30 per child.
Football 101
Many parents new to the game of football need instruction on how to better assist their children in playing the sport. Football 101 classes are provided by the Big City Football League to give parents accurate information on the rules of football.
AYF National Championship
Each year in December, American Youth Football hosts its national championship tournament in Orlando, FL. The best teams from across the country compete for this great honor-to be crowned national champion of youth football.
USA Football Coaching School
USA Football is a partner of the BCFL. Resources for coaches and players are provide yearly to ensure your children have the best playing experience. For more information visit www.usafootball.com.
Unlimited (No Weight Limit) Play
No kids are turned away because of their weight. The All-American Division of American Youth Football is age and grade based, meaning youth are allowed to play with other kids their own age and not be required to lose weigh or play with older kids.
Mandatory Play Rule
All kids must play in every game. The mandatory play rule is enforces by the BCFL and AYF so that parents can see their children have fun and experience the game. Each child must play a minimum of 6 plays in each game.
Cheerleading Competition
Cheerleaders are taught how to stunt, dance and do routines during the season. Cheerleaders also compete regionally and nationally for recognition through American Youth Football.
Instructional
For kids in grades 1-3. Instructional play teaches the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, throwing, catching and running. Coaches are on the fields with the children during the games. The Head Coach of the Instructional team is Jared Cunningham.
Freshman
For kids in grades 4-5. Freshman teams travel and are able to compete at the National Championship level. Conference champions are determined at the end of the season. The Head Coach of the Freshman team is Maurice McClendon.
Junior Varsity
Grades 6-7. Junior Varsity players travel and are also able to compete at the National Championship level. Conference champions are determined at the end of the season. The Head Coach of the Junior Varsity team is Joses Spraggins.
Varsity
Grades 8-9. Ninth graders are able to play because many school systems do not offer freshman football. American Youth Football offers freshman a chance to play in a ninth grade division. Eighth graders are also able to play in an all star game at the National Championship and may be selected to an all start team sponsored by Under Armour. The Head Coach of the Varsity team is John McClendon.
Cheerleading Large and Squad
Cheerleaders can compete on a small squad of up to 15 and large up to 36 particpants. Cheerleaders to cheer, stunt, dance and step routines. For cheerleading information contact LaTaunya Spraggins at 248-688-4350.
Volunteering
Volunteers are needed for a variety of projects; registration, equipment managment, field maintenance, concessions, transporation of players, etc. If you would like to volunteer, get involved or make a donation to Chiefs Football, contact Calethia Binion at 313-971-8392.
