About Us BATS began as a group of Bristish Expats in 1985 and has evolved into a multi-racial, multi-age, multi-capability group who put on 1-4 performances each year.
Everyone is welcome and all practical skills can be used in acting, singing, set design and construction, prop making, costume sewing, publicity, voice training, choreography, selling tickets, ushing, making tea, printing, brow-mopping, lifting, sweeping, lighting, sounds, fund raising, accounting, managing, partying, face-painting, ironing, and everything else you can think of.
If you'd like to be involved, a little or a lot, come along and make new friends.
Norsk KORTE FAKTA OM PANTO
Lang tradisjon, med historiske røtter. I middelalderen ble det populært med reisende teatergrupper som underholdt folk med fortellinger om kjente figurer som for eksempel elskerne Harlequin og Columbine, ofte med akkompagnement av musikk og dans. Det ble også mye bruk av kløvner og slapstick/bløtkakehumor, kanskje fordi italiensktalende skuespillere ikke kunne så lett forstås av et fransktalende publikum.
Sjangeren, med en del tilpasninger, har overlevd gjennom mange århundre og begynte å ta dagens form i viktorianske tider i England. Panto er nå en populær form for familieunderholdning, spesielt i julesesongen.
En gjenfortelling av et kjent eventyr som f.eks. Aladdin, Askepott, Jack og bønnestengelen osv. Innenfor denne rammen utspilles den eldgamle kampen mellom det gode og det onde. Disse to skikkelser snakker alltid i rimende vers, for å skille dem fra de dødelige. De trer alltid inn i scenen fra henholdsvis høyre og venstre siden (sett fra skuespillerens ståsted). Dette fordi ondskap tradisjonelt assosieres med alt som er venstreorientert. Har alltid en bestemt struktur, uansett de ytre detaljene Har alltid standardskikkelser som barna kjenner igjen fra eventyrene (fattiggutten, prinsessen, den slemme, alende dyr osv.). Dyr spiller alltid en vesentlig rolle. Har en bestemt rollebesetning: The Principal Boy skal alltid spilles av en kvinne The Dame (en klovnaktig skikkelse) skal alltid spilles av en mann Publikum spiller også en rolle, og panto har faste interaktive elementer:
De skal hjelpe skikkelsene på scenen ved å rope ut et varsel når noen kommer i faresonen (Its behind you!) eller prøver å stjele noe osv. De er med på en liten komisk sang. De har lov å pipe hver gang den slemme viser seg (Boo! Hiss!) De besvarer spørsmål som stilles fra scenen. Inkluderer musikk, sang og dans
