Mission: The Bateman Golf Academy will provide a rigorous, relevant academic and comprehensive golf program designed to meet the student's individual needs. We will develop self-confident students who are committed to continuous improvement academically, athletically and personally.

About the Academy

Overview: Robert Bateman Secondary is committed to the development of student success by providing opportunities for students to pursue their passions. This exciting golf academy will help student athletes personalize their learning by providing them with a tremendous opportunity in meeting their athletic and learning goals.

Goals: The academy will offer student's a high performance golf program that provides them the opportunity to develop their potential and total game. The program will have a balanced approach with approximately 40% of the program held at Ledgeview Golf Course and Fraserglen Driving Range, where students will be instructed by certified CPGA professionals. The other 60% of the program will involve golf specific athletic performance training, mental training, rules, ettiquette, anatomy, and nutrition by certified instructors and trainers.

Specifically the goals are to:

Nurture healthy attitudes and behaviours consistent with academic and athletic success

Improve the skill level of every academy participant

Enhance functional physical development through continuous fitness programming

Increase participant awareness of the benefits of nutrition on sport performance

Provide the student and parent/guardian with evaluations of personal performance

Academic Structure: Students who participate in the Golf Academy receive 4 credits for their sport specific training during the school year.

Strength and conditioning 9,10, 11, Personal Fitness 12

PE 9, 10, 11, 12 (Golf specific)

Students also take one online course (AVS) per year specific to their grade.

All students in the golf academy are expected to maintain a B (73%) cumulative average.

Our Staff

Clarke Wismer - Golf Academy Coordinator

Clarke is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Academy. Clarke has been a teacher and coach in SD#34 for 12 years. He also teaches Psychology and Law at RBSS, and is the Co-founder of the Bateman hockey program.

Kathy Stecyk - Head Golf Pro - C.P.G.A , L.P.G.A

Attaining the highest qualifications in both Associations by attending seminars regularly throughout North America, Kathy is completely committed to providing the highest level of golf instruction. She is an expert in coaching the skills related to sports learning and performance, and is experienced working with all levels of players, age groups and special needs golfers. www.kathystecykgolf.com

Rob Cummings - Assistant Golf Instructor

Rob is the fromer Golf pro and head instructor/coordinator of the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club Jr. program. He has also had many years experience coaching elite level Jr. golfers with the BC Golf Association. Rob is also a certified club fitter with both Ping and Callaway.

Mike Smith - Assistant Golf Instructor

Mike worked in the Abbotsford School District as an administrator and Phys. Ed. teacher for 30+ years. He is a current Ledgeview member and has coached a variety of sports including rep and recreational soccer, volleyball, basketball, and baseball.

Mark Ferguson - Oasis Physiotherapy - Fitness Instructor

Mark is the fitness instructor for the Academy. Mark works with the golfers to set up golf specific training programs.

The Robert Bateman Secondary Golf Academy is happy to be partnered with Ledgeview Golf and Country Club and Fraserglen Golf Course. The Academy will be using both of these facilities throughout the year for the practical portions of the academy. We are also fortunate to have Oasis Physiotherapy as the athletic trainers for the academy.
