Samantha Baker, owner and photographer of Underdog Photography, began her photographic career as a self-taught photojournalist and staff writer for her high school yearbook in 2005. Baker graduated in 2007 and walked away with three awards from the Colorado High School Press Association for her photographic work.After finding the challenge and beauty of summarizing a story in a single image her true passion in life, Baker continued her formal education at Colorado State University majoring in journalism and technical communication as well as art photography. It was here that Baker was trained in the traditional darkroom as well as the digital photographic medium. She spent hours learning how to develop and print both analog and digital color and black and white photography.In 2010, Baker joined the award-winning staff at the Rocky Mountain Collegian, Colorado's only student-run, daily newspaper. Here she increase her real-world experience and industry knowledge. Not only did she expand here photographic portfolio, but Baker also developed numerous writing clips and video packages and awards to establish herself as a true "backpack journalist."In recent years, Baker has acquired a distinctive interest in sports, music and food photography as well as stylized portraiture. Clients include the internationally recognized band, Steelheart, and has worked freelance as a photographer for newspapers and magazines including Denver's Westword.Samantha Baker and Underdog Photography are available for commercial interests ranging from product, lifestyle, headshots, promo shoots as well as weddings, senior portraits, newborns, live music, sports, events and more.With a commitment to excellence, history of working under deadline and capturing the unique, she strives to make each assignment a win for the underdog.
