Tithes and Offerings

What is a tithe and how is it different from an offering? The word, "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. A tithe is the first 10% of your income. An offering is anything you give above and beyond the 10%

Why do we tithe? The Bible says, The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives. (Deuteronomy 14:23 TLB) Tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything we have. It is also God's personal invitation to an outpouring of His blessing in your life.In Malachi 3:10 (NLT), God says this: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test Me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it." This is the only place in Scripture where God tells us to put Him to the test. In other words, He's saying, "Go ahead. I dare you. See if you can out-give Me."Is God wise? Do you trust him? These are two fundamental questions behind the act of giving. If God is wise, then you should listen to what He says about financial stewardship. If you trust Him, then you should trust Him with all aspects of your life, including your finances. So go ahead. Accept God's invitation to put Him to the test. Start tithing faithfully and watch what He does in and through your life.

The First Baptist Church of Tempe is committed to honoring God's provision by exercising wise and faithful stewardship, ethical business practices, and full accountability to ensure the financial integrity of FBC remains above reproach. We accomplish this through a system of internal controls and an internal budgeting and reporting process. Anyone may request a copy of FBC's most recent financial statement. Why does God want you to excel in the grace of giving?

It's because He influences the world through His people. God gives to you so He can give through you. The Bible tells us that everything we have is a gift from God (1 Chronicles 29:14). As you give both faithfully and purposefully, the world is changed for the glory of God: the gospel is preached, lives are touched, people are fed, bodies are healed, churches are built; and you, in turn, are blessed by God so that you can give again.

The Mission of First Baptist Church of Tempe is to connect people to Jesus Christ by: o loving God through worship o loving each other through fellowship o loving the Word of God through discipleship o loving those in need through ministry o loving the world through evangelism and missions It is imperative that the biblical principle of stewardship merits the respect and trust of the Church body and the general public. First Baptist Church of Tempe believes that donors and prospective donors should have full confidence in the Church’'s stewardship of their funds and we declare that Donors have the following rights: 1. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their designated purposes.2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the Church’'s deacon board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities. 3. To have access to the Church’'s most recent financial statements. 4. To be assured that their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given. If there is a question concerning your gift, the fiancial office will contact the donor for clarification. 5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition. 6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law. 7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature. 8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the Church or hired solicitors. 9. The First Baptist Church of Tempe does not give out our mailing list. 10. As you tithe and contribute to First Baptist Church of Tempe, consider the convenient options available. Weekend Services: Simply place cash or checks in offering plate during any of the weekend services. Be sure to include name and address on check or envelope in order to receive credit for tax purposes; and designate how you would like the offering applied.By Mail: Mail your donation to the First Baptist Church of Tempe at 4525 S McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85282. Be sure to include name and address on check or envelope so that donation credit may be provided for tax purposes; and designate how you would like the offering applied.Online Donation: Online donation allows for a specific dollar amount to be automatically deducted from a checking or savings account. You can set this up as a one-time or recurring gift. Online donation is not only easy, but safe and secure. NOTE: First Baptist Church of Tempe is unable to accept donations via credit card directly. Online donation is supported only through a special secure online link.

All donations made to First Baptist Church of Tempe are held in the strictest confidence.Statements of Contributions are mailed in January (for the prior calendar year). If you have moved recently, please complete a change of address form at First Baptist Church of Tempe office.

Donations for God’'s causes: Because God has given us many things, we should be willing to give back to God. Because He first loved us, we should help one another. Your donation could be a check, credit card, stocks, etc. II Corinthians 9:8 says,“"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;” God loves a cheerful giver". II Corinthians 9:7"Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver". Making a donation has rewards. II Corinthians 9:6"Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully". Areas of Need: Donations for benevolence to help people in need. Donations for missions and missionaries.
