Welcome to AYSO Region 1161 serving the youth of Kansas City North.
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) was established in the Los Angeles area in 1964 with nine teams. It was the dream of a group of devoted soccer enthusiasts who started the organization in a garage. Today, AYSO has more than 50,000 teams and more than 650,000 players. AYSO wants to change the traditional youth sports paradigm where some kids never get to play and the only communication between coach and players involves the command "Drop and give me 20." How does AYSO accomplish that? Our mission is to develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on AYSO's Six Philosophies.
AYSO is supported by more than 250,000 volunteers. Parents donate their time as coaches, referees, team parents, administrators or sponsors. Although AYSO is primarily a youth sports organization, it realizes the importance of providing a safe and healthy atmosphere for children. AYSO is continually working to improve the education of its volunteers in the fields of child development, human behavior, and sports psychology. A strong emphasis is placed on ethics and sportsmanship and the development of the whole child. For more about the history of AYSO click here.
Coaching Program
Because "Positive Coaching" is one of AYSO's guiding philosophies, coach training is one of our highest priorities.
No Experience? No Problem
* Our volunteer coaches receive complete training right from the beginning!
* Age- specific coaching courses provide training for coaches of every level of experience.
* Complete with manuals, handouts and outlines that are continually reviewed and updated.

Officiating Program
AYSO referees do more than just enforce the Laws of the Game. Their job is to make sure the game is safe and enjoyable for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators -- and themselves.
* Referee training that teaches not only the letter of the law, but the "Spirit of the Game."
* USSF cross-certification.
* Ready, Set Ref! video and workbook for new referees.
* Youth Referee Program
* AYSO referees are volunteers, so we want to be sure they have as much fun as the players do.
