Rho Chapter Update
Amanda Rich, Chapter Advisor
Rho Chapter participated in UW’s Panhellenic’s Formal Fall Recruitment from Sept. 10 – 17th.
The chapter is excited to welcome 38 new members as a result of a fantastic recruitment week.
Overall, recruitment was up at UW with approximately 700 women participating. A highlight
of the week was the chapter’s philanthropy project – the girls decorated shoes to advertise for
their spring philanthropy event, Walk A Mile. The red paper shoes decorated during recruitment
will adorn the UW campus to advertise for the event this spring.
In April, about 300 people from the UW community participated in Walk A Mile. KOMO covered
the event on television and the UW Daily also included it in their campus news. The event
focused on awareness of domestic violence.
Charlotte MacDonald Malone Fund
By Gena Sears, Rho HCB, Charlotte Malone Liaison
The Charlotte MacDonald Malone Fund was generously established in 1989 to encourage academic excellence at Rho Chapter. The fund is managed by the National Alpha Chi Omega Foundation and provides annual grants to support related projects for the house.
Over the past seven years (fiscal years 2005-2006 to 2011-2012, Charlotte Malone has provided over $90,000 as funding-in-part for important projects undertaken by the House Corporation Board to enhance the learning environment for Rho collegiates. These projects have included the development and equipping of the Charlotte Malone Library, installation of high speed secure internet, and most recently renovation of six inner court rooms to replace broken and inadequate desks, with custom built-in study centers.
Inner-court room study centers, before and after renovation.
The House Corporation Board is thankful for the generous and continued support of the
Foundation for this work. This years grant of $14,135 (fiscal year 2011-2011) will be applied to
close the funding gap of unreimbursed Fund-qualifying expenses incurred over the past three
years. It is the Boards vision that these study centers will serve as a model for future updates
to other rooms in the Rho Chapter House, And, serve as a legacy to Rhos Charlotte MacDonald
Malone.
