A RUSH on Recruitment
By Kelli Currie, NW Province Collegiate Chairman
Greek Communities are growing quickly. Nationwide, public universities are accepting record numbers of students, especially out-of-state students who require on-campus housing, students are demanding more from their living experience, and when you evaluate generations of Greek Life, you'll find an increase in legacies in both men's and women's organizations. Additionally, the economic downturn has many families looking for more reasonable housing options.
These are just a few of the variables that have NPC communities bursting at the seams across the country. Chapters are taking larger new member classes and College Panhellenics are inviting new chapters on campus. In Washington, both UW and WSU saw record numbers of women going through formal recruitment, which resulted in record numbers of new members into both Rho and Omega chapters.
University of Washington, Rho Chapter
Total women registered for recruitment: 713
2011 pledge class: 38
2011 Legacies: 3
Washington State University, Omega Chapter
Total women registered for recruitment: 671 (512 in 2010; an increase of over 150!!)
2011 pledge class: 41
2011 Legacies: 6
These women are fortunate to be supported by fabulous and giving alumnae like you. Many thanks to the members of Rho and Omega advisory boards for your continued support of our collegiate women.
If you're impressed by these recruitment numbers (and you definitely should be!), volunteer to be an advisory board member, send a note of congratulations to the chapter, write an email, give to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation in support of the fabulous programming that they provide our members each year. Get involved, even if only to say that you're so proud to be an Alpha Chi.
