Production Trivia
Quantum has been attached to superhero properties The Flash, Spider-Man, and Ghost Rider before settling for adapting Sandman.
This incarnation of Sandman is not related to Neil Gaiman's Sandman and is, instead, an adaptation of the Golden Age hero of the same name.
Walton Goggins was rumored to play the role of Jack Crane for a long time. It was eventually revealed that Jason Patric had scored the part.
Clint Eastwood and Martin Campbell were rumored to be up for the directing job at one point. They were passed over for David Slade who the producer felt was a "better fit for the saga." David Slade is currently attached to direct the initial trilogy.
Danielle Harris, Ed Norton, and Jeffery Donovan were the first choices for the roles of Dian Belmont, Earl Dukeston, and Thomas Hart respectively.
The opening of the film was initially going to be the opening for Quantum's "The Flash" film but when he decided to adapt Sandman instead, he reworked the scene, to make it fit within the world of Sandman.
Sandman is the first in a trilogy of superhero films based on Sandman, with the potential to have films push past the original trilogy. Is also set within the Flip Bros/DC Universe.
Before Matthew Bomer was cast as Wesley Dodds/Sandman, the role was rumored to have gone to Skeet Ulrich and Kristoffer Polaha at certain points in the film's long pre production phase. In fact, a clip featuring Skeet Ulrich as Wesley Dodds was released on The Hollywood Pit Presents... but once it was decided that Skeet was too old for the part, the scene that was released was reshot with Matthew Bomer.
