Copyright and Fair Use
"The primary objective of copyright is not to reward the labor of authors, but to promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts. To this end, copyright assures authors the right to their original expression, but encourages others to build freely upon the ideas and information conveyed by a work. This result is neither unfair nor unfortunate. It is the means by which a copyright advances the progress of science and art." Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, 1991

Grants
GRANTS
Scott Elementary School earned three grants for the 2011-2012 school year, totaling $9,500.00. Some of the grants will build up k-2nd grade classroom libraries, and others will build up the library's collection Our grants are:Target Grant for $2,000.00Dollar General Grant for $2,500.00Laura Bush Grant for $5,000.00
Target Grant
TARGET GRANT
For the second year in a row Scott Elementary has earned a $2,000.00 grant from Target. The money will be spent building up the classroom libraries for all kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade classes. Every month, each class in kindergarten-2nd grade will receive a new hardback book that is age-level appropriate. The books will correspond to a theme for that month. Also, students are expected to take an AR test on each of the books. By the end of the school year, each kindergarten-2nd grade class will have added 9 books to the classroom library. When students come to the library, they can check out a book by the same author featured from the Target Grant book. Through the Target Grant, we hope to increase AR points, increase reading, increase the library's circulation statistics, and, most importantly, instill a love of reading to our students.
